I was wondering what you was meaning as to the chassis being weak or will crack etc. I have seen MK7 transits which i can use the engine and axle and patrts for the swap. only reason i am thinking on this. as would rather have a better engine.



This is a 1986 Fiat Ducato. is this what you had ?

Caravan axles are no good as they are only rated to max 1500kg. the rear axle weight is 1680kg, reason for a ytransit or similar axle so they are rated to 2000kg plus off the right van .

well this looks good, IF i can find out what cord size i need. Guess the axle has to be dismantled anyway by somebody and why not me.

I found some cords overseas and not bad towards a £2k axle rebuild or a kit for £1k

Its been done and seems easy to do...haha. i can knock up something like this easy enough. As said just finding the rubber cords.

Guess you will need some long thread type pullers to pull it apart, and something similar to rebuild it, plus some "lube", plenty of "lube"....

yes nothing to difficulty. a good ram or jack or sorts, ill what i have in the shed.

I again called Fraser Brown and spoke to a chap, who was surprised that this a `caravan axle as in rubber torsion not metal torsion bar. . To it, i am going to let them do it fully refurbed for £660. i found new cords for less than £100 but sod it, ill be lazy and do other stuff and send it off to them. This way i can crack on with the other project when it arrives and doing bit on the interior of this as and when.

Its been a day to garb an hour or so therefore i, even T had a go at ripping out the Ducato.

And i am soooo glad i did as the water alone soaked in would weight it down. my god i seen better boat that have sunk in better nick. Wetter than a Prostitu......well it was wet,. Not much dry area on the back end.

This is as far as we got for now, dont ant to rip out much more untill i get props it.

Just going t work back in two halves and reseal as we go and seal all holes as you can see there are a few popping up. .

Thje loo was the hardest to remove due to screw stripped so ripped the thig out in the end. Prob get a new one anyway.

This is how we left it. As said i want to get the props out before i remove more structure. Windows need removing and covering up.

I painted our loo when we refitted the bathroom, it came out very well.
New owner said Bathroom sold it to them, it was a new sink and shower tray from Magnum motor homes, tap from Ebay ( I do have a spare brand new Shower / tap if you are stuck) , painted loo and plastic clad the walls, a fiddly job but one of the best value for money projects

That looks nice and rotten, I would do it in sections rather than strip everything out, what you using for adhesive when you rake all the timbers out and bond the panels back on ?

Thanks kida, not sure but mite be keeping the vanity unit but getting a new loo. this one mite need new seals but all rest seems ok, even though i ripped the dam thing out. ill keep it mind though

exactly what i am doing, the back part first and working forward. using prop as i go. glad i keep all my gear from rebuilding boats. For adhesive ill be using Purafalex 40. dam good stuff, much same as Sikaflex 291i but half the cost. .

You do realise the ply boards bonded on are structural and add a huge amount to the strength of the box it makes.

2part is what you should be using, you could bond individual sticks with one part pu but you need to bond to the exterior and the surrounding styrofoam/polystyrene

what are we talking of bonding in here.

Me, i am thinking on PU adhesive ( Puraflex 40 ) for the battens to the outer shell. the insulation stuck to outer walls with 2 part adhesive, then the inner lining/shell 2 parts aswell to the PIR insulation boards with it also again bonded with the same PU adhesive to that.

It's sandwich construction, if your removing the insulation back to the aluminium IE outside skin you would replace and bond your frame in place, this is best done in sections so the outside doesn't start to warp and go wonky, then you would spray the glue over the aluminium and edges of the frame (if you have access to it in spray form) most repair places use 2 parts like I posted above, you mix it and spread it with a comb spreader then you glue styrofoam to that. You would once that's set make sure nothing is bulging on the outside, if it is you can properly that back straight if your next to a wall then you would spread another layer of glue on the inside and bond the interior ply onto that.

If your styrofoam is in good condition you can usually peel what's left of the back of the interior panel off, cut small strips in it just through what's left and it should peel off or pry off if it's thicker, then you can lightly sand, replace rotten timbers and then bond in new frame and then a panel on top of that.

You want a complete coverage of glue on the panels not just a few random runs, bit like tilling a wall.

Presumably when you strip out a boat the hull is still structurally sound, the same won't be said for the camper
