Next door needed some work doing. Scaffold needed to be on out plot.
Roofing chap came around to survey. I made it clear that i didnt mind people walking through the garage, but the materials had to go over the garden wall.
Subcontracted scaffold company turns up, takes it all though the garage. Moves stuff about (i find a small shot blasting cabinet balanced on top of my cnc machine, on top of the previous days work etc)
I dont mention this, until...
They come back (when im not here) and put scaffold up on the street (footpath) outside. They drill fixing points into the wall of our house. Im not about so dont see any of this till later.
I call up the roofing company chap, who has subcontracted the scaffold company. Chap is generally aggressive. Apparently my granting access at the back permits them to drill holes in my wall at the front. Apparently its all included in the verbal agreement for access... He blames my neighbor for not informing me. My neighbor has no clue about how scaffold is put up. (our house was decorated last summer, btw)
Anyway, in this heated conversation, i point out that he came around to survey the job and its his error if the scaffold company cant (health and safety you know) lift some poles over a garden wall. He implies that the scaffold wont come down then. Then says that they can build a bridge or towers or something over the wall. I mean they're a scaffolding company, i guess. Its not a small wall, about 8 foot, but its not like its one of Trumps campaign points or anything.
I get an email from my neighbor -
"
got a message from the roofers that the scaffolders will attend on thursday to take away the scaffold from the side of the house. Apparently they'll knock on your door and ask (nicely maybe) if they can go through your yard but if not they will go over the wall.
"
So i get the knock. Chap starts swearing very quickly. Tells me "he is going through to get his scaffold" etc. I put the recorder on my phone and tell him that if anyone sets foot in the garage, ill call the police. At one point he says "your garage is a nightmare" (i didnt reply, but its not like i prepared it for him, as the agreement was that nothing would go through there!)
Scaffold is still up.
Im wondering what happens now? Do i have to employ a third party to take it down, and then do the small claims thing for the costs?
