GCSEs they weren't around when I was at school, besides anything else, didn't they bring GCSEs in just for people who couldn't pass O'levels ......Yeah right. Explain why there are 20cwt/ton, 8 stones /cwt, 14 lb/stone and 16 oz/pound. I can do fractions but metric is no problem. Fractions are easy in simple maths (the questions at GCSE most often cancel to leave an easy final calculation) but you do need top heavy fractions for that. Those who rely on calculators prefer decimal to base ten - fractional conversion calculators have likely mostly disappeared these days.
