i have an eclipse and a starret one both decent only paid about 3 quid each 
Yikes... That'd be ordinary plate glass I guess? Car glass just usually kind of cubes up when you break it..If you do happen to use one to break glass, make sure you are wearing some stout gloves, I didn't and got 8 stitches
I like them for marking while I hold pieces together, but often pieces move before I get the dab done especially with the one I have that doesn't always workI like the auto to get the accurate dot then blast the dot again with a punch n hammer

I was going to link it but reviews are poor. Also note its sold by RDG.
There is a Starret one for a few quid more, also less than ideal reviews.
There was a Fred here recently about a different type, sprung centre punch, supposed to be good?

I would have suggested the Starrett 18C, it's a chunky beast. I bought one a few years ago and was very impressed - makes a good mark on steel and strikes every time.
However, I bought a second one recently and they appear to have changed the design, now "Starrett USA" instead of "Starrett made in USA".... tolerances are looser, laser etched name instead of stamped. I had to send it back as was assembled with the spring backwards and even after flipping it around it still didn't strike consistently. Got a replacement which worked but nowhere near as nicely as my original. Bit sad for brand such as Starrett. But if you can get a decent one they are worth a look.

I have one made by Faithfull, decade's old, a few years ago it started misfiring occasionally but still did a good job
A new Starrett one popped up on eBay, its nicely made but doesn't punch as well as the Faithfull jobbie
