The TD5 engine was designed by Land Rover - based on the L series diesel from the Rover 200/400 before they switched to the BMW engines. Very good engines both of them. No idea who designed the wiring loom though
I think td5 was more k series as like the k series it was designed to be a modular engine, 500cc per pot, 4 cyl 2 litre td4 5 cyl td5 and 6 cyl td6, then bmw bought them and kept the 5 but used their own engines in the 4 and 6 pot varieties.The TD5 engine was designed by Land Rover - based on the L series diesel from the Rover 200/400 before they switched to the BMW engines. Non of the LandRover's I owned had a sunroof, but they leaked nonetheless.

It's a known (and old) issue - Ford produced an overlay harness for in-warranty repairs although it was more prevalent on Focus than Mondeo. You won't dry out the wiring, it'll just rot. You'll need new connectors and contacts at both ends - assuming the BCM is recoverable, many were not, if you're doing it yourself, an old toothbrush and IPA may help clean it enough to resurrect it.

New connectors and contacts? It's a huge plug at the BCM end, multiple pins in it, going to numerous gadgets round the car, so no way is that going to be replacable.
Once water is in the copper you will never get it out, on the plus side it can take years before it turns black, and even then it should still work.

And the C-Max and the Kuga and......Early ford Galaxys had nasty problem. Central locking sensor close to the floor. Sunroofs would leak and the sensor would play up. Ford had a great solution for the main dealers. Drill a hole in the floor - yes seriously
Recalls are safety related, so this wouldn't qualify. You don't need to replace the entire harness, just run a new pair of wires to the screenwash pump (which is what the overlay harness did) with a new connector & contacts at the pump end and new contacts at the BCM end. Be careful with a hair dryer, you could overheat components or even melt solder on some of the surface mount components. Open it up, give it a good, gentle clean with IPA and a toothbrush then put it near a radiator for a day or so - or if your oven goes low enough, 50deg. C. for 20 mins or so, then give it a second clean with IPA to remove any residue forced out by the heat and dry again.

Same people who fitted a GM cheesebox gearbox behind the Td6 in the Range Rover whilst giving the X5 with the same engine a proven robust ZF unit
