... "no more projects" and then the universe conspires to place temptation in your path. Next thing you know you're making a deal for a ridiculously rare motorcycle. Next week I'll be picking up a full rolling Dresda GS1000 frame with Dreesda braced arm, aluminium tank and RGV bodywork. I can't make up my mind if I'm chuffed or disappointed with my self restraint.

Anyway, some pictures of a bike I'd only ever seen in a couple of magazines a long time ago.

From the little I've found so far there were 9 of these frames built, a couple of Yamaha and the rest for CB900 and GS1000. Dave Degens built them in the 1970s on the back of his racing success mixing it up with the likes of Mike Hailwood in the nationals, and also on the success of his Triton builds.

Just got to pick it up and wait for the buyer's remorse to set in.

I think it'll go one of two ways. Either a tuned GS1000 as it would have originally had, or something light and snappy like a tuned 1052 Slabby engine.

Whichever way I go with the engine it'll be about saving weight and having good handling to keep with the race bike nature of it.

I posted it on a FaceBook group for UK special frames to try and find out some more info. Not only did I find that info but a previous owner is on there who filled in a load of blanks. Apparently it was originally build for a GT 750 conversion, fortunately that nastiness was changed for a GS 1000 engine and the frame professionally altered to take it. It spent quite a bit of time in Belgium and Germany and he even had a photo of it from the '90s at the Bol D'or.

Having been caught on the hop a bit with the appearance of another project it's taken a minute or two to (mostly) settle on a plan. Until I actually get it in the workshop there will be stuff that will be more mights & maybes than certain.

So at the moment my thinking is this. The photo from the '90s shows it with the RG bodywork in black with orange stripes and lettering, and an orange frame similar to the Walter Wolf scheme. Looks pretty good in that so I think that's the way it'll go and stick with the RG bodywork as whilst it's not what I'd fit by choice, it's part of the bike's history.

Engine wise I'd like to use a GS1000 done to 1085 with a flowed head etc. but that'll be an expensive route to go down. However, if it'll fit in the frame I have a Roger Upperton ET engine with an 1170 big bore, flowed head with EF valves fitted just waiting for a home. That way the only cost (still a chunk) for a serious normally aspirated period engine would be a set of flat slides. I even have a solid Harris works exhaust to complete the look.

That leaves the suspension, keep the existing wheels and have them coated at the same time as the frame and arm. Shocks are an easy bolt on, and see what's what with some RWU forks.

I'm trying to avoid it becoming a money pit as I have the Throwback build for that.
