Bosch 1/4" Router

Little Bosch router here, rather unloved. Is there like a ball bearing or something that sits between the end of the bolt sticking out of the handle and the shaft? Lost whatever it was in there.

Lost a handle too but my 3D guru is drawing a couple of new ones up. Green PETG I'm thinking with an M8 bolt epoxied in.

The handle on the left screws in and stays in. The right one nips on to the shaft to lock the height of the router with respect to the base.

Magnet superglued to a bamboo skewer will retrieve it.

Once you have it back and the head located in its recess to stop it spinning, drill a tiny hole in the handle and drip in some superglue to keep it there.

Alternatively, screw a next-size down fibre washer onto the bolt threads and then the bolt cannot disappear again.

It's OK, you're off the hook. With a gentle bit of shaking the bolt dropped back down and I screwed it straight back on.
Don't ever ask me to remove it again!

For part number 212 you could just use a small off cut of any metal softer than steel. The brass slug is there just to stop the locking bolt cutting in to the shaft.
Even a bit of hard plastic may work.

In the past have used a 22 slug pellet dropped in the hole as a lock for shafts like that.....
the rear carriage hyd locks on my 3CX use to come loose, so drilled a hole in the nut taped it out and used a grub screw with another 22 slug....never vibrated loose again....
orig they were loctited on but to get em off was a nightmare.......

The knob on mine has a clip on top.

Usually tap a rod down the hole and the cap will come off allowing you to super glue the bolt in place& replace the cap .

New knob design printed in PETG with a knurled edge. I'll get my lad to do two so a matched pair. There's an M8 bolt screwed up the middle that I'll cut to length and threadlock in. Just got to cut a bit of brass rod or find my airgun pellets!

Serviced an Elu 1/4 shank router circa 1997 tonight
The locking screw handles have a small pointed shouldered brass insert that is pushed into the hole in the bolt end . The end that touches the ram is where to pointed end goes it does not mark the ram where as a steel screw will.

I think that is what your router needs . Give me a day or so & I'll turn up a pair of brass inserts for you if you tell me the size of the hole in the end of the original screw lock bolt ( use a twist drill to discover the size ) .
The brass plug is a tight fit in the end of the screw thread of the adjuster bolt so it will move back and forth , not slip out and go cross wise in the bolt hole of the adjuster .

Thank you. I think there is supposed to be just one insert, under one locking knob. The threads are M8. I've found a 6mm dia brass pin from a commando plug that I can cut the already rounded end off of to make one.

I recall, when using it, that I would always be undoing the fixed handle. I've had my lad print a bright orange end cap insert so I know which one to adjust. It's now superglued in.

I've also cleaned the shatfts up. Could do with 2 new springs really.

Good to hear it , the ELU I have has both side handles as locking devices. Both pointed brass pins are 9 mm long poking out the screw thread .

Unless the springs are really soft leave them alone as it gets tiring having to push down hard on strong springs for plunge cuts
, so long as the springs reassert gently all is good .
When printing knobs that retain nuts or bolt heads print a few mm above the hexagonal and use a hot iron to melt the lip over the nut / bolt head whilst the thread is held in a rotating chuck etc .

Had to smile about the colour code . Surely t'would have been better to have an orange band around the perimeter of the knob so you can see it easier ,.
