The couple of dozen properties in our lane have overhead copper wire phone connections and are about 400m from the old village exchange with its two green cabinets. A couple of weeks ago Openreach were busy in the lane

and attached a couple of gizmos to the pole feeding the overheads to a section of the properties . Unfortunately the guys disappeared before I could ask what was happening. Can anyone suggest what its about, are we due for some form of

As above. Same was completed in our street a couple of weeks ago and I just got an email yesterday from OpenReach saying I can get fibre.

Signed up for PlusNet last night as we can only get ~6Mb/sec on the copper line so currently have a 5G broadband box from Three, which is great when it works. Typically get 200-600Mb/sec through the 5G box but often it slows to a crawl.

That said, my street is very like what @wristpin has and so I wonder whether they're going to have to dig the road up to get the fibre to me. We'll see on 20th October as that's when the OpenReach engineer will be knocking on the door!

on our street its a squarish box with thinness but it wasnt being installed by bt open reach it was one of the other supliers as i had a convo with the worker installing it

I got vodaphone full fibre not long ago, its Not even their dearest, think I’m paying £24 per month, over 200 mbps is not unusual, just checked it now and it’s showing this, it’s about 4 times what I was getting before for the same price so well worth getting the fibre cable to the house when you’re offered it.

If your existing copper line is overhead, the new fibre will be overhead, so no digging should be required.

There’s a downside of receiving the fibre,we eventually got it installed a year after paying,they paid £2200 into our bank for the credit balance of our monthly charges plus some considerable goodwill money,however,now our phones don’t work effectively even with their £15 converter gadgets,so we now have to buy some wi-fi phones to get the ringer volume back plus the ability to make local calls without the need for an area code.
They won’t work if there’s a power cut,plus of course that’s the time when the mobile signal vanishes,progress eh?

they will supply a battery backup for the ont and hub (separate bbu's) on request.

I don’t understand computers and internet, most of you folk know that

I have Gigaclear fibre, it works and it’s fast.
