Pry bar

Looking for a decent pry bar to use for automotive, tried the ebay amazon ones that are made of cheese but want a decent one now, strike through would be a bonus too.

I was going to warn against the Sealy ones. I bought a set a few years ago too and the 2 foot bar bent easily and stayed that way. The shorter ones haven’t been any better.

I'm looking to replace them with a set of Milwaukee ones that did very on a Youtube destruction test.

My longest serving pry bar is a cheapy Bergen, the pound through handle shattered within a week so I spun up and knurled a new steel handle for it, made it an interference fit and beat it onto the square shaft. Its the wrong side of twenty years old now.

you want a roughneck gorilla bar it has its uses on many things

the longest bar i have is a street bar

like the bacho pry bar but mines 1" thick and 6ft long

they have the uses on vehicles

as goes for the wishbone bar use the ones around but even them do fail

I have a set of Signet pry bars with striking caps that seem pretty decent - not given them a lot of abuse though.
Kennedy do some inexpensive ladyfoot ones which are handy too.

I have the Siegen 1220mm one I use for truck gearboxes, not bent or damaged in anyway, 40 quid ebay.
They also do a smaller set of 4 with largest being 900mm long for 65/70 quid.

Ive a couple of your usual crowbars, as used by burglars, with the round end cut off. One made out of a antiroll bar about 1m x 20mm. A couple made out of torsion bars. All are hit through, hit any where, stick a pipe on them, the don't bend or break but they haven't got a posh name.

I do have fancy plastic handled ones that usually get ignored in favour of a big screwdriver as they bend like cheese.

I have two things to say since leaving the last job

1: prybars are absolutely required for trucks
2: I never want to swap a gearbox or engine (Allison 3000, penta, Merc om6 or Cummins qsb) in a customers yard with minimal equipment ever again. Took 4 days of solid rain to swap an engine over that had none of the ancillary equipment fitted. Oh yeah the engine other than hiab was done alone.


Realising I was doing things Id never pay others to do was a line crossed.
