Tow vehicle hire

Well as plans go they never go.

Got a new boat to drag up from Southampton to Manchester with my trailer. I used my mates old school Defender to move my other boat this weekend, its is a bit lighter by 600kg.
Well it will be long day if the towing does not kill the thing lol. And averaged 45mph.

So looking for a Shogun to hire unless i can find a newer Land Rover to hire not at crazy prices i have been given stating at £350 a day for the lowest spec. Not sure even the newer ones are any good actually.

Shogun is my preffered tow machine. ill be getting anther myself soon, when i sell the van. . Last Shogun DiD was excellent,

Weight of boat and trailer is around 3400kg so need a good beast.

Anybody know of a place that hires Shoguns in Manchester.

Hiring anything with a tow bar isnt so easy or cheap….try looking for a jap pick up to hire.

SHB are one of the big hire specialists for 4x4s and tow vehicles.

Not many vehicles are rated to tow 3500kg now, so choices are limited.

Shb are one of the few that hire tow vehicles.
But I wouldn't be looking to hire a 4x4. Look for an Iveco daily.
An Isuzu n125 tows 3.5t aswell but not as comfy as the Iveco. Vans are a far far better tow vehicle than a 4x4.

how much you want kida, or can i hire it for a day and a bit. my last Shoggy was same year and was ok, plated weight it will pull 3.5ton aslong as train weight is in line.

You can buy it for £3k (I paid £3.5k in March) I can't drive atm so I won't miss it!

A lot of 4x4's aren't much better.
And Iveco daily is available as a proper 4x4 with difflocks all round if need be.

Dad's got one of the last generation of Shoguns to be sold in the UK. It will tow 3.5t I think but having towed a little with it I prefer the Defender to it and the RR to the Defender. The latter is only down to the fact that it has 3x the horse power and 3x the torque. I actually feel more comfortable towing with the Defender because the RR is quite disconnected from the whole scenario.

You'll find the long wheel base vehicles much nicer to tow with than the short wheel base ones.

I've hired LWB vans with towbars without any problem - just need to book in advance

its not like you have to pay the repair bills if you hire, so hire a range rover tdv8. by far the best tow vehicle on the market.... as long as its someone elses...

@W.olly you can't be looking very hard. Just had a look on Avis Prestige's website and a new pretender D300 HSE whatever that means is £292 from Manchester Airport. Unlimited mileage and free additional driver. Brand spanking new diesel Range Rover was £313.

Guess you'd just have to double check they've got a tow bar. Various Audis etc., also available for hire.

Guess you'd just have to double check they've got a tow bar. Various Audis etc., also available for hire.

yes £300 per day lol. i looked not bothered if its brand spanking new aslong as it pulls it without killing itself haha . a £3k shogun will do that. if need be ill do that but wort trying to ge a reasonable price first.

That is going to use at least 20 gallons of diesel round trip at roughly 20mpg if you are lucky, so that is 150 quid straight away.
So I reckon you are going to struggle to get anyone to do if for cheap.
Add in the unknown trailer, and it could be entertaining.

O looking in detail for a day, a Fiat 500 is over a grand lol RR £1800

ill just go buy my own tow car, easier.

The boats I see like that being trialed around are attached to at least an F-250, more likely an F-350 dually.
