Just reading the China comments - it is perfectly possible to get a quality product out of China - it isn't all crap, and you would be silly to think so. Unfortunately, because UK suppliers, then European suppliers sent us crap, at high cost, which wasn't even consistently crap so we could make allowances, we ended up buying from China - continuously better product at a decent cost.

Suck it & see. I've bought expensive crap, & decent quality cheap gear, in the past. No manufacturer, country of origin etc. is exempt from turning out some tat. Conversely, neither are any guarantee of being tat.

I had to add to this thread with the latest frustrations.

Bought some bug killer/ caterpillar worm killer to kill the caterpillars destroying our little trees in front of our house. It had NO effect on the worms.
Bug killer that does not kill. Not even chasing the things away.

Bought some weed killer to kill weeds on the side of the driveway/on the paving in front of our house.
It did NOT work.
Some weeds looked like they were dying for a few days but they were back growing all too happily a few days later!

I had some petrol for the strimmer in the shed, sprayed the weeds with petrol and that WORKED with no new weeds replacing the dead ones either!
A litre of petrol is cheaper than weed killer too

What is the point of all these silly products if they just don't work?!?!!?

Don't get me started on "safety features" that make things so hard to use you don't use 'em - got to be safer.

Also pretty terrible to chuck engine and creosote into the environment

To be honest most commercial products work, the caveat being you need to read in tech sheet for proper use

it goes on the fence and shed not on the ground apart from the posts for what i use id not worry about it chemical company pumping tons of chemicals in to rivers and polurting the atmosphere farmers spreading fertilisers

What was the product? Most will require a second application.

When the are fresh shoot they are most vulnerable

I am so happy I am not the only one suffering with these 'environmentally friendly' products that just do not work.

I can personally relate to paint stripper, paints and degreaser.

I use neat TFR for removing grease, just make sure it doesn't dry out before washing it off!.

Fly papers are the dogs danglers, once a few land they call their mates. when they are full spray them with gold paint and you can use them as Christmas decorations.

I use fly papers, they show no mercy. 3 hanging up, changed every 5/6 days. Oh 1 taped above the dogs food bowl got to change that one as well.

I was on job where they bought a load of duct/gaffa tape in. Once taken off the roll it would stick to eff all. I called it Teflon tape. D'ont Know where they got that carp from but I could hazard an uneducated guess.

Just being talking to an engineer, about the solvent used to clean air sampling pipes.

The old stuff used to me a mix of 60% alcohols and other cleaning products.

It worked, it also meant the pipe was usable with in 15 minutes of cleaning.

New stuff is 70% water based.

It does not clean, it smears the dirt, it takes 3 hours to dry and leaves a sticky residue.


So, the advise to to use a alcohol based material to clean the pipes after the water based one.

I'm so glad I work in a place where the first requirement is does it do the job, not is it 'green'
