multi tool

anyone experience with using a multi tool ?

a family member is building a house and im the relief employment and the general labourer........ looking to make life easier

multitool looks like it would be great help for cutting all sorts.......... we are just finished with the insulation, mowing on to sewerage soon and everything else that needs to be done.

will it cut nails and timber

Yes. It will eat nails and wood.

Also goes through blades like nothing else. Don't be tempted to skimp on blades, get the best you can find (and lots of them).

Great for precision cuts in awkward spaces, not for general purpose "demolition" or jobbing. Probably better off with a sawsall.

They're invaluable in certain situations. You want bimetal blades specified for nails & wood if you're going through nails. As mentioned above, they do go through blades somewhat quickly, so whatever you can cut by other means, it's preferable to do so.

I use mine all the time, my only thing to look for would be quick release blade and from a proper brand

This about sums them upto me, superb to get you in or out of an awkward corner! But just admit it, your just looking for an excuse to buy more tools! Sogo buy one and a Sawsall too

Same thing here. I was continually putting off and finding excuses not to buy one. Then had a job my sister wanted help with which realistically could only be done using a multitool because of access. Bought the M12 one and boy was I wrong too.

Chap who works for my neighbour as a carpenter said once you've got one you use it for everything and he wasn't far wrong. I mean when I was trimming the cladding on the stable (3/4" waney edge doug fir) up at the gable end I should have used a circular saw, or a chainsaw or something a bit bigger. Nope, multitool with cycling through batteries.

only 2 im sure @MattF got nearly 7 2x boash 240v one clean one as a spare not out the box as yet one on it way in the post 2x 12v and 2x 18v units in the same condition clean and one new in the box for a spare in case it goes wrong

there great for small cuts in hard to get to places if your cutting a long lenth get some thing else and there hard to cut a stright line with

Ive cut 6 inch nails before, but eats blades.

ivde found the best way of using them is a 1 1/2 inch sweep back and forth not pushing to hard forward

they do work just by jamimg them in a piece of wood and pushing but they seam just to burn through rather than cut

I have a Dewalt (mains) Multi-Tool their quick release system is the best imo, mainly because I have some Milwaukee cordless tools and didn't see me using it that much.....WRONG!!!!..... ..........

I haven't used it a lot lately mainly, because I haven't done much work of late on the house, but we will be starting again soon so I'll be stocking up on blades soon.

Even cutting tiles already on the wall, plus the space for a box for the new/relocated plug socket, use the right blade and they are incredible tools.

I thought my cabinet maker mate had lost the plot when he bought one and raved about it. I borrowed it and was hooked!

I now have 5!

Draper 230V - Don't really use it as it's got a weird, not standard blade fitting.

Aldi 20V - Bought for £7.95 from the bargain bin to convert to run on 18V Makita batteries. I cocked it up, cooked the PCB I think by reversing the polarity Good now for mechanical parts only.

Parkside 230V - It's fine, quick release. The switch got stuck once, jammed with sawdust and I had to strip it. All good now.

Duratool - 20V, bought from CPC Farnell for peanuts. Converted with a 3D printed adapter to run on Makita. Vibrates a lot and noisy as hell!

Fakita - Makita clone that takes their batteries. My goto one now though I did resort to the Duratool the other day when I couldn't find the Fakita.

I bought a cheap own brand one from the now defunct Netto. It doesn't get a lot of use but it is invaluable for the jobs it does get used on. Blown parquet flooring under kitchen units where it got soaked and needed cutting off flush was a job it excelled at.

I want to lift 2 or 3 tiles in my kitchen floor doing as little damage as possible. Is going along the grout lines with a multi-tool a viable option?
