Has it been forgotten,is it a frowned upon NO NO NO?????
Reason i ask is,
Well today all i wanted to do was make a flappy thing(lenth of steel sheet) with 3 75mm steel butt hinges to a bit of 30x30 box, nothing special, nothing thats going to support a block of flats,in fact, its a that'll do way out job done etc etc
So while drilling holes and pop riveting away happy in the sunshine, neighbour 2 doors down pops over and say's,
"**** me,didnt think anyone did that anymore"
"what"?
"riveting"
"why not"?
"well,i've not seen anyone do it for ages,i remember my dad doing it years ago"
I might add here Mark is a sound guy and good neighbour in his early 40's,i'm 60
"But you weld, why pop rivet it"?
"because i cant be ar5ed dragging the welder out"(which i must add is in the shed some 30mts away down the bloody path to the drive, sort out extension cables etc etc etc)
Anyway the chat continued onto how life is and what we'll do about fixing the world blah blah blah
Which made me think, actually riveting isn't really talked about or used much these days,i know at most of the garages i work in,never seen it used, its all screwed, bolted or glued on esp plastic.
Still,i can see the point,as you fight with the pop gun getting the spent steel pin out of the gun, which dont wanna come out no matter what method you use, catching ya knuckles when it pops unexpectedly ,or worse still the pin snapping off half way through leaving a few mm sticking out
Been promising myself some lazy tongs for years, then again,Milwaukee M12 do a nice gun
