a little blackie came in our house and dog went mental to get it was lucky and grabbed him by the neck and put him out . let it out the front door and it was away

I would opine that it's a young woodpecker.

Bit too small, the beaks the wrong shape and the yellow bar on the wing would make me think not - the black/white markings on the top of the wings resemble woodpecker markings but goldfinches have similar markings, though usually lower down on the wing, but it’s hard to see the position of the wing from the pic.
