your time , uh thats only about 55 minutes @8ob isnt it ?

But those little jobs stack up to be quite expensive very quickly
(Based on 4 figures for the small 8 hole press and die I made recently for about £20 including new drill bits)

what gets me and what started me welding was the teeth sucking , ah yes ..oh thats a bugger..dont know thats really difficult ..before they give a price , then rip you another one price wise and you look at their workmanshit , last time it happened was on a prop shaft carrier , I had lengthened a chassis on a iveco daily , inserts, new crossmembers ,bit more prop, needing a bearing carrier welded, what a mess. so much so I couldnt stand it , finished the truck and so discusted sold it . there and then no more ,I bought welders and learnt. and it continues lathe etc etc .

I've given this a bit of thought...the best tool I've bought recently is the Festool track saw...it's a joy to use.

I don't have space for any more tools....so I'm thinking a smart use of the money might be to upgrade existing tools that are an irritating faff to use - we all have them I reckon but we just put up with it!

Oh yeah - definitely. In the last couple of weeks I've used mine to shave a couple of doors (far less hit and miss than a power or hand planer) and slice some OSB for panels inside a summer shed.
Really useful tool, albeit mine is the Evolution kit - fair bit cheaper than the Festool!

I have the £500.oo in discretionary funds, but I can't think of any tool's I "really" need. Once my Wife & I complete and move into our project house, I don't think I'm going to need half of the tools I've brought from overseas or acquired here, as I have been retired for quite some time; so there will be another downsizing is in the not too distant future.

I'd like a 4' box and pan folder, 4' guillotine and mag drill but reckon I'd need a bigger budget than £500 today - my old 3' Keetona folder cost me £125 and my 3' Edwards guillotine cost £25 (both long sold)

I'm in a similar boat...just finished a full house renovation where I did most of the work....I now have a loft full of tools that really I need to thin out!

Got a pile of gates and barriers I'd like to make if I ever find the time. One of those auto cut to length bandsaws would save a loads of time but don't suppose I'd get one for 500.

im on the side of i got most of what i need the stuff i dont have i want but cant condone the cost or more so space for it

id like a lathe as seen much of this sort of stuff on the fourm but i did have one and when i had it i had no need of it

I think only you will know what use you will get out of something as to if it is really worth it or not.
Half the time we are only kidding ourselves with justification for tool purchases, and know full well we will still buy it anyway, because we want it.

Unfortunately having already acquired most of the small tools I’m ever going to need, £500 doesn’t really go very far now on the list of stuff I haven’t got but want.
