Well I have been working on my Defender over the last few days and I chuckled when I noticed so much of my kit was the dreaded green (or black) kit that I just seem to get more of.

I must admit that for the price it takes some beating. True colour shield, grinder, impact wrench, impact driver, recip saw, drill, rechargeable light. Plus lots of cutting and flap discs.

I know it's not the best gear, but then I couldn't afford the best gear so would be working with my corded or manual kit.

I realised that if I was to spawn a child I would probably have to give it a middle (of Lidl) name of Parkside!

However, the world is not ready for anything conceived from parts nestling in my underwear, so I have spared the devastation that could be caused by any biology related to me and altered the lyrics from a well known Blur song (can you tell I am bored).

I like their stuff, mostly. The last grinder died after an hour, which was a shame as it was lovely and light. Related? Don't know. Easily returned. The 20v stuff works well with the 8ah batteries.

My Parkside grinder also did not last long at all, got a replacement sent from Germany, lasted a few days then that went too.

Both went out with a big spark. I think it is the switch/speed control mechanism that failed.

Once I have a bit of time I will open them up to see if I can spot where the failure was.

Interesting. Mine was making farting noises, which suggested bushes to me. Then explosive fart noise and died.

On the parkside angry grinders with soft start, if you trigger on and off constantly it pops the thyristor in the soft start circuit, because it doesnt get chance to cool down. I knackered mine cutting tiles and "revving" the motor instead of leaving it running. They sent me a refurb from Germany, still running perfectly now I know!

Had a soldering iron that packed in after 2 uses. They did refund though as it was just over a year old. Other tools have been good - stapler, hot air gun, Dremmel knock off, couple of others. I've been lucky and managed to get a few tools for a fiver when they've sold them off.

I think like Aldi they are doing the cordless tool thing more and more now though, which means buying into their system.

Does anyone know if any other brands use the same batteries as the parkside 12v tools.
I would quite like a cordless ratchet for very infrequent use. Parkside do them in Germany but I have never seen them in the UK and seeing as I have a load of parkside 12v batteries I was wondering if there are any other brands that are compatible.

It's safe to assume all battery tool brands run different batteries, the only difference is when a big brand makes tools for another for example MAC tools are made by Dewalt hence they use the same batteries, Metabo used to make some stuff for Snap On. Even brands under the same umbrella don't share format generally

I know it's the case for the main players but parkside tools are made by loads of different manufacturers. For example There track saw is also sold in Screwfix as titan. So I wondered if there 12v range is sold under another name.

That's changing somewhat now, however. I believe Metabo are in some battery sharing setup, & there's Bosch's Ampshare too. Manufacturers are starting to twig to the publics desire of unified battery platforms.

I rather think you're into 3D printing territory. Start here with something that fits the Parkside battery:

This piece fits on to a 12V battery from Parkside (Lidl). Metal strips need to be inserted and glued to make contact with the battery.

This is interesting, a 12V Bosch battery to 12V Parkside tool. The wrong way way round so to speak but it's fairly easy to subtract a "male" 3D model and create a "female".
