Does not matter who's idea it is But moderaters are necesery on all large forums.
Having said that on this one maybe if the "posting for postings sake " was reduced we could do without one.
EVERONE NEEDS to give there thoughts on this one as it effects evryone even you lot that are lurking,we know your out there...........
Give constructive opinions without reason and we can find the bords tru opinion?????????

OK I'll start now you are here MigMag.
There are a lot of different people with different interests on the forum. If you see a thread you don't like please ignore it rather than jumping in to be-little the opening poster.
It's likely to go away faster if you reply constructively to another post in that section - the post you don't like will get buried.
For anyone being insulted do use the report post button

In my opinion, moderators should be chosen by administrators and existing moderators only. From experience of being a forum Admin of my own forum and a moderator on other forums in the past, if you just ask to be a moderator, its like being at primary school, me me me me me.
I have noticed a few threads on here that have gone slightly too far... Some are jokey insults between two people or more which come across that way, but yet there's many others that don't, which kind of makes this place not seem very friendly at times. I know I'm only new to the forums, but everyone's aloud to voice there opinion, new or not. So my view is, yes an extra moderator or 2 would probably be a good thing, So long as it doesn't become too moderated, if you get what I mean.

Malcolm is doing a fine job - but it's no fun sorting out unpleasant or childish squabbles.
On the AMOC forum it got so bad that the club had to resort to legal advice over some postings - and Malc hasn't got the comfort of a well endowed organisation behind him if this goes the same way.
We all like to think of ourselves as responsible adults - but I am the first to admit that at times I rattle off a posting without really thinking - or re-reading (which for an ex-journalist is next to heresy).
So chaps - be moderate in what you write, and make the moderator's role more of an 'honourary' position.
I would welcome having forum moderators.

maybe malcolm should look at an in depth disclaimer to people joining/using the forum, as forums grow bigger arguments will always pop up, a bit of banter is always good but lines will always get crossed, people will come and go and reputations will develop both good and bad, if this level of growth continues i dont think malcolm would be able to look after the *nursery* at the level he is now, its not an easy or fun job, but im thankful for this forum as there is nothing else like it.

Oh god, what have I done?
I started this thread purely to demonstrate my thanks to "the moderators" for their good work in quietly and gently moving errant members posts (I'm including myself here, obviously), in order to make the forum a better place.
As I say, they get my vote.
Haze is probably close to the mark in calling parts of the forum a *nursery* (guilty again, you honour).
Finally, Nellway is bang on. The position of moderator should be honorary and not need to be anything else. I admire the way that Malcolm and Hitachimad manage to stand back and let us have our little squabbles (or possibly give us the rope to hang ourselves, as the case may be). Other forums can be far less tolerant, or sometimes far too tolerant, IMO.
It's a cracking forum this. And if I ever bring it down, lower the tone, or post too much, I apologise.

To be honest, I think malcom does a cracking job. He's even handed in his moderation and explains his actions when requested, you cant really ask for more.
I moderate somewhere else, and we had to close our general anything goes discussion after a extended flame war, that I inadvertently started (someone posted a "50 things that america does best, god bless america blah blah" and I pointed out that 5 of the top 20 were actually english, which made me anti american and a racist apparently, even though I was acutally factually correct and had posted links to actual sites documenting the 5 items). To this day I still feel that the whole thing was started merely in retaliation at my stance on a american trader who wouldnt play by our business rules. There will always be a tiny proportion people making snide sideways comments at the mod as he is a authority figure, but I feel the vast majority of people silently respect the work and balance it takes to do the job properly. Those that dont, well **** em, its my magic wand and if they dont like it they know where the door is
For the rest of us, when I think I might be about to post something that could be contraversial, before posting finally I write it, go away and do something else for a few hours and come back and read my post, 9/10ths of the time I just end up not posting my ramblings and seeing that it wont add anything or is pointless, ive been known to compose a response to someone 3 or 4 times like that before I was happy with how it came accross. When I go to a forum that there are four or five people that consistantly get up my nose, instead of bickering with them I either just make a point of ignoring their responses, and only step in to correct obvious fallacies, or deregister and go do something more constructive in the shed with the time saved, I dont come on the net to get annoyed and bicker, I can get plenty of that in real life...

Well no probs with the moderation on this forum, I have to say when i started the moveing train thread I just posted it as a bit of light harted banter, Im know as a bit of a misrable sod amongst me mates and the misus and love to have a moan about everyday anoyances. I didnt expect the thread to take quite the tern it did, There is one or to members that would help to keep the forum light harted if they didnt do red rag to a ball type postings, i mention no names on the whole i dont get involved.
Well the point im trying to make is the moderators are doing a sterlin job, Just sorry a bit of a light harted posting seem to snowball into a fist fight promise i wont post anything about paris hillton again.

I must admit, if i see a petty squabble, i find it entertaining to watch.
I believe there is also a fine line between keeping things sweet and not over moding. I think its about right here, but if you disagree let us know.
Virtuallly everyone here is very well behaved. The only stuff i usually need remove are spammers.
I dont always bother to read every thread though, so no doubt i do miss some of it.

It's not actually so much work to moderate here - which is down to the great bunch of people we have here on the forum. I ought to say thanks more often, after all the forum would be a very useless place without you all. Anyway, thanks
I've left my first forum because of the moderation team deleting threads that I had put time and effort into just because there was an argument later on. Here we'll try just to delete the argument, but it's better if the argument doesn't happen in the first place.
It's the atmosphere I'm keen to maintain. We've got a great atmosphere here. Everyone is friendly, and I'd hope that newbies feel they can join in without any fear of newbie bashing or some culture they have to try to and fit in with. We were all newbies here once.
Lost myself now. There was definately something I was building up to. Ah well, glad to hear the forum is going to self moderate from now on, and if you need any more smilies do let me know. I quite like the hug one.
