scratches on my glasses ?

was hoping someonde on here could help and what they done to get scraches out of glasses i know there is lots of things on line but i dont want to just try any thing and make it worse

my glasses are vary focals so not as expensive as shop bought ones they where asking near 300 quid for this that

i bought from googles for you with reactive and coatings for £50 ish quid and not perfect but with what i do i use them for work and they get a hard time and ive had them 2 pairs so 100 quids worth and both have got a few light marks in the wrong places so intrupt in my vision area and it hard to look around the marks only had them for a few months so at that cost

so guys what you used to good effect

i know the coatings will bbe damaged a bit id expect but that something i think im goting to have to live with

If they have a coating which is scratched I'd think you will either have to try one of those magic pen things to fill in the scratch or just remove all the coating and polish the scratches out.

Do any of the local opticians offer a repair service?
Otherwise, might be worth asking around phone/computer repair places, I've had scratches on laptop screens repaired before but I don't know if they actually repaired the scratch or replaced the outer layer of the screen?

Maybe a jewelers that can redo watch glass?

Otherwise, pop the lense out, hot glue/bluetack/silicone it down and start working through the grits...

It very much depends what material the lenses are made from, if Polycarbonate you will never get the scratches out, try looking for a glasses manufacturer near you (the people who actually make the glasses for the opticians) and take them to them, they will tell you right away. It is even possible for them to recoat them sometimes.

i think tapping them there plastic lens as they dont feel hard or make a glass sound ?

I've never tried polishing polycarbonate safety glasses/face shields but I've done plenty of headlights that have come up nicely. Admittedly, they may not be optically perfect if they are right in front of the eyes though?
Seems to polish up easily enough, either by hand or slow rpm as you don't want to get any heat into it.

Until i put them on & found that i had altered the geometry & had a distorted section in my vision. Had to chuck them & buy new.
I gave up going to my local optician as they got way too expensive. Best bit about them was the receptionist was a dead ringer for Nina Hartley!
I go to specsavers now, good glasses at a good price.

This is it really, distorts the lenses.

It's hard I do maintance so diging in drains under stairs painting ruff jobs glasses get knocked off I've bumped them a few times as well they lasted eg not broken the frames but it's the lenses that prob cost the money as the hole lot only cost 50 each but just to expensive to replace every coupe months don't mind a pair every year or 2 pairs a year

bite the bullet there knacked ive tried allsorts jewelers rouge toothpaste t cut and some kit i bought for doing them to no avail they polish up but leave a haze and it does your head in

remove all the coating and polish the scratches out.

Dont do this , i have donee this , ot doesnt work.

The plastic is supper soft and soft stuff doesnt polish well for starters.

You will end up with massive optical smear also.

Actual optics didnt change noticiibly.

If you do buff the coating only option is to recoat.

This i havent tried yet but you can get the bits from a safty glass company Norville.

Thanks every body what I thought its not doing anything is lightly better than doing something they are ok but a couple marks are there but not wotlrth throwing them yet so will keep 2nd pair for home use I guess and the marked ones for work untill there that bad I have to get a new pair

ive worn glasses since 5

if you want glasses that dont scratch that easily use a glass pair

plastic scratches so easily

ive had chips out of glass and the lense has broken but still could be used but plastic is rubbish the only thing thats good with plastic is its lightness

You surprise me. I bought some safety glasses with a very slight defect on the inner area of one lens.
Riding a push bike with them on, was like being in a tunnel full of slightly distorted stuff, I couldn't wear them.
In normal use I just noticed things moving around, out of the center of vision as I turned my head.
It was a very slight defect in one lens that did that.

I can use scratched glasses but not ones with any distortion.

It was a very slight defect in one lens that did that.

I've had similar weird distortion areas, very annoying.

The scratch would have to be quite deep for that level of change, I've only played with shallow ones , mostly the coating created hard lines I found bad.

I buy as cheap as possible readers, never had any distortion problems with them.
I get them covered in fine scratches in the middle of the lenses over the course of maybe 3 months.
I carry on using them till it gets really obvious that I am moving my head round trying to find a clear bit
of lens to look though.
