Following on from the Rats Thread. I bought a GardePro E8 cam. And its pants.

The animal has walked past the camera before it takes video or a picture. eg a cat walked past last night all I saw was the end of its tail, in both directions.
Response time is suposed to be 0.1sec.

So Im looking for suggestions on a replacement. what you say??

Would moving the camera help ? So that whatever triggers the camera (pir or suchlike) has a wider field of view therefore keeping the subject in frame longer

Ive tried that. the sensors are too slow to react. I had it in the back garden yesterday with the dog running round. She could run through the cameras veiw and back and it would just catch her on the second run.

@James1979 . it was in the Rat thread. Only one person suggested to look on Amazon. Problem is you cant trust the reveiws

We have a wildlife cam, a bit of a PITA feeding it batteries and collecting the SD card. Currently in the back of a cupboard after the mounting clip fell off.

I'm going to use a standard PoE security camera, a raspberry pi, a Coral USB AI accelerator and some software called Frigate. It does image recognition rather than just sensing movement so you avoid trees triggering it in the wind.

I've got all the gear, just need some time to assemble it..........

Other than a longer or slower cat I'll recommend the Bushnell cameras. I bought a cheap knock off one and it didn't even work so sent it back.
I've got a Bushnell but can't remember which model, I'll check later if I remember.
It seems to do exactly what it says on the tin and gets far better reviews that the Amazon Chinese ones.

All the shootists seem to use bushnells.

Try your local gun shop. He won’t sell crap as he won’t want it brought back

I borrowed one from bil , set it up on front tyre of l200, out of site , worked great several pics of johny fox, untill I forgot and drove the truck , so had to buy a replacement for him ,still use the original only smashed the lense cover it seems .

Far and few between are gun shops these days. York Guns were my closest. Closed a longtime ago.

this is exactly the model I bought , the sensors are placed at an angle triggering the camera in the correct time , unless they sniff it or are extremly close , I woud recomend rechargable batteries otherwise it gets spendy quickly .all the best

We have a couple from Amazon and neither are very responsive to stuff moving quickly across, close to the lens, I get some clips with nothing showing. They work OK when animals move into view from the front or pass across further from the camera.

also caught a rat chasing a mouse (they eat them) in the loft , pictures were super clear ,unfortuantly , we get mice in loft each winter , I leave them normally , but when the big fellas visit the bait comes out.

I have a browning one, does all the normal stuff. What wins it for me is the sound quality, it’s very clear. It can pick up the human voice at 60 feet and you hear every word. Mine work with 850 ir, fancied a 940 ir one but a mate got one and it was rubbish. 940 is supposed to be totally invisible. If your not in a rush Dave you could borrow mine once it’s finished it’s current mission!

It’s not getting set off by a blade of grass being blown about in the detection zone?

I think you could do with a faster camera I have the Campark TC06 and I find it is brilliant
