I have been reading the post “Problems bending Kunifer pipe” its been useful reading, found it quite timely as I am about to make new brake pipes for fathers motorhome its been parked for a couple years and one of he brake pipes (front left) burst



so I reckon its time to do them all, as I am off work for 10 days.

I did manage to pickup a flaring tool the other day



and an a couple ordinary benders



now im looking for a tight bender and fingers crossed it will be all I need. This morning I managed to get the motorhome up on blocks and stands so as to make it safe and comfortable working.



I reckon its going to be a bit tight getting the pipe up over the gearbox though. Fingers crossed all goes well, wish me luck

not a lot of room how ever its done, plus that would mean flairing on the truck, yuk yuk

Maybe make up the whole piece, and then cut at the xmission, flare both ends on the bench, apply
a flared joiner under the vehicle.

Did you buy full rolls of material ?
You'll end up with some "practice" pieces for sure, so might as well buy extra.
I also bought the nuts in bulk, and put them in a small divided box (fishing tackle box).

ive fitted that many with copper pipe that the mechanic had a habbit of calling me in to do

being a plumber as well sort of easy

i did all of the bending by hand including your tight bends there easy to do all fitted back into there clips and you couldnt tell they was done by hand

My plan is to hopefully use steel line make the line up in one, as father has a breaker Iveco



which I have stripped the line out to use as a guide to get as many bends done on the bench as possible, I will probably have to make a few bends on the vehicle where it comes through the chassis. I should have done these when I did the rust,


calipers and new discs



a couple years ago but the little flaring tool I had wouldn't touch steel pipes the one I have now will. If all else fails I will make a join.

Those block stack's look a bit far to the centre, have you got stands outboard as well?

yes I have two heavy duty tractor axle stands directly onto the chassis in behind the block stacks. A couple years ago a popular local guy in our village squashed himself when the landrover he was working on rolled off the blocks it always come to mind when up on blocks.

Im using 3/16" zinc coating steel brake line its a lot harder than copper I have bought a roll so will have plenty for mistakes lol im leaning toward one of these benders



as from reviews you can get good tight bend its just the price is killing me lol. I was actually thinking about havin ago at making one but its the time it takes.

Kunifer has a bad press for some reason?
I've contorted it by hand into all sorts of compromising positions ,never had a problem with cupronickle.

Yes i have used that before on normal cars much easier to use. The Iveco has steel lines I dont know it its because of the wieght class its the 6 ton Iveco, anyway I thought I would do it like for like although im not using the plastic coated stuff.

The weight of the vehicle doesn't come into it ,the hydraulic pressure of brake systems is much the same throughout cars commercial etc, kunifer will more than cope with the pressure demands.

They're ok, just practice on a bit of pipe to get the feel

Personally I only use Kunifer brake pipe, no point in having to do the job twice, it may cost a bit more but a "Once done n forget thing for me".

Ps. I use the SP pliers for tight bends, they are my go to.

I also have/use the lower pictured style of bender for easier bends, but much harder to use in tight areas under vehicles

Spendy!! I have alot of brake pipe benders - more recently got this one which has all rollers but havent used it yet. Can also straighten coiled brake pipe aparantly

I would not use anything other than Kunifer for new lines. Ive seen copper lines go all green and corroded here too. Steel - zinc or not is a no no for me. It is cheap & keeps its shape well for prefabricaiton hence why car manufacturers still use it. But ferrous lines in our climate have a limited life especially for a classic car you intend to keep.
