The NHS Consultant Psychiatrist Who Never Qualified

There’s been news about a woman who worked for 27 years, and in many different hospitals, as a Consultant psychiatrist in the NHS, but had never gained any qualifications. She’s been jailed for 7 years https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-lancashire-64797676

The reason she was caught is that she started try to change patients Will’s, a bit like the GP, Harold Shipman.
I’m trying to figure out what conclusions to draw about what the implications of this story are about the effectiveness of qualified NHS psychiatrists? I think the implications are quite bad?

Only as bad as a dwp advisor at the jobcenter implying that they are a psychiatrist or a high paid expert in the field of illness's or broken bones expert

Only as bad as a dwp advisor at the jobcenter implying that they are a psychiatrist or a high paid expert in the field of illness's or broken bones expert

But could a broken bones expert, with no training, ever have got started and go on to become a Consultant. The quality of broken bone repairs can be measured. The quality of psychiatric work is more on the "mystical" level.

I take it the going to jail is for the wills?
Anyone with a pair of ears and an opinion can be psychiatrist.
Using that opinion to con people out of there will would make them really good at psychiatry. Would it not?
Kind of like the best security dude is a thief.

it dosnt help when jobcenter advisors and there minions are actively telling people to lie on there cv's to get a job any job as long as they get it

it has been going on for over the last 20 years even i have been sanctioned ( benefit stopped for refusing to lie on my cv )

dbs check will throw some issues up but thats down to administartion to do there checks on staff

but even a dbs check can be wrong it they havent used the correct information in the first place

Dad got thrown out for arguing that a class 1 hgv is not a coach licence and therefore he wouldn’t be applying for a job doing it. I got job seekers stopped for missing a meeting as I took a friend to hospital after he got run over

I doubt it's a widespread problem, there were failings and it was a deliberate fraud

Can't get onto a proper building project without checks these days. I have access to information when needed about the companies and people we employ

That's very fair question, and I guess it raises the following question about what is the scope of the "Brew Room". As a relatively new member of the forum, I'll leave that for others to advise.

A question that I'd like to ask is how a thread intended to be about UK Health Care turns in a discussion of Job Centres? Threads going way-off topic seem to happen quite a lot.

In Redhill they had a registrar[?] who followed other doctors around and I gather there
was nothing questionable in is actions. But he wanted to get hands on with something, and
someone suggested Murphys references were ****** and he probably wasnt even a doctor.


And it turned out they were and he wasnt.
It was said he had run off to Canada to be a tree surgeon......

it was bound to have comments to it happens with many postss on here

the point i illustrated is fact and it dosnt matter if its with the nhs or at any company or at the dwp if your not registered to do the job then dont imply that you can do the job

the same point can be said for lieing on your cv

both references are used within that court case and others should be made fully aware of this fact

as goes for the dbs check well thats shame on the companys for not doing the right checks and from my reading the lady in question not only did work for the nhs but also worked within the private industry as well

says alot about the dbs check and also the workers blacklisted check that companys have on people and if you want that list i can also provide that link as well

theres plenty of failures within the whole system but since the person moved jobs alot of times why didnt other places pick up on her fake qualifications instead of placing them at the foot of the nhs

it clearly puts the system of checks into a dangerous failure of the whole system that is in place as it stands now

FWIW, DBS checks were introduced 11 yrs ago and CRB was 10 yrs before that. She entered the industry 27 yrs ago. I'm not saying it's right but can see how she got away with it. She would have been moving from hospital to hospital on references.

I'm DBS checked as part of my job. They don't check for psychiatry qualifications as part of it. If you've got a clean record, I don't think it tells much. At least the basic one anyway.
