British Gas 3 phase supply has gone up to £1.23 per kWh ?

So it's been on 41 pence for ages , but it seems to have just jumped to £1.23 a unit.

Is this some clerical error they have made or is this the "new normal" ?

Were currently looking to change the electrical set up , there is a whole faf around it as multiple units(other people same main supply) are involved.

Any comments help or jokes appreciated.

Strewth!! Seems a bit steep. Or does it include standing charge? At least get some quotes from alternative suppliers, and go from there.

Simple maths….41 pence per phase, times 3 phases, = £1.23

Standing charge is quite reasonable , rate not so much

No it's been 41 pence per kwh now £1.23

i.e.
single phase 1kw for 1h = 1kwh
three phase 0.333kw x 3 phases for 1h = 1kwh

It's been 41 pence for over a year or so , just jumped last bill. The kwh used at previous tarrif maks sense compared to the new tarrif section that has the increased rate.

What would you describe as small consumption ? I'm not to up on whats what with regard to that , phase one runs up to about 80A but continual probably 35A - 45A , 2 and 3 probably max at 10 to 20 but intermittent.

Yeah I was interested for any one who is able / free to share what is a reasonable tariff to look for at the moment. is £1 a kwh the norm at the moment ? The sparky that was redoing some meter connections for the rent reciver said 43p was "way too much" that was about 2 months ago.

The more KWH's you use the cheaper it gets - the bigger your bills the less the standing charge is.

I am paying about 25.3p per KWH hour at the moment in my workshop - in contract which <insert painfully> ends in Oct 2023.

Does not matter is you single or three phase - KWH's are KWH's

I started shopping about now - but I think it may well go down (naive or what ) - but £1 per KWH looks the price at the moment for a low use enterprise (shocking or what).

Glad I’m shutting down my workshop, I bitched and moaned 18 months ago we they raised my rate to 20p/kWh and locked me into a 2 year contract. They’ve been trying to get us to renegotiate for months now.

I thought 3ph supplies were billed in a different way based on peak usage & peak per single phase?
ie you would be billed for the 80amps x 3 hence the higher price per kWh representing the cost of all 3 phases.

I know at one place I worked we had to switch stuff that used a lot on after the previous one had reached full temp.

Unless each pahse has its own individual meter so basically 3 x single phase.

BTW is the OP having an issue with going over a peak ?
We've seen a 15 minute peak will bring you the higher rate for the rest of the month.

My pal has built chocolate factory on the isle of mull (a proper factory that makes and sells chocolate.just to clarify ) she cant get a 3 phase supply conection for 6 weeks and has been quoted 41p per unit !

Well the outa reaches of the UK are very appealing but ....

Thats amazingly cheep for a small island , the price were on , the heating's getting rationed and hot water bottles and double jumpers might become the norm.

Unless each pahse has its own individual meter so basically 3 x single phase.

It all depends on the size of the supply and your supply agreement.

For a simple 70KVA (100A three phase) supply it will almost certainly be a whole current meter with billing being the same as for a domestic single phase supply.

For a larger supply there's more likely to be more complex agreements and billing, including an agreed supply capacity and limits on reactive power/power factor with associated penalties.
