I'm looking to obliterate small a patch of land with ivy and sorts growing on it. It's not easily accessible so I need something that can be poured or sprayed on. I've tried glyphosate but that didn't do the trick. I've got half a jerry can full of diesel, will that kill it all and stop anything growing forever?

Highly unlikely.
Digging will get rid of the Ivy, identify what is actually growing to best deal with it.
What are you trying to acheive? a patch of bare soil?

Ivy will come back again and again, unless you can get to the main root source. I had a thick 'wave' of it flowing over my back fence when I moved in, from the neighbours garden. Several days of cutting and hacking got rid of it, and I drilled holes in several of the thicker roots and poured glyphosate weed killer in, to soak. I still get roots and shoots creeping along in my garden though, 2 years later.

In my experience, if glyphosate didn’t work, you used it wrongly.

i killed a hawthorne bush hedge off accidentaly using a couple of sprays with sbr brush and wood killer

Ivy is a black art. The leaf is waxy, which doesn't help. The root system is unending. Wherever there's ivy, there's root. You need to spray every last inch of it to kill it, & possibly several applications required.

Also, you’re unlikely as a member of the public to be able to buy what’s required.
I’d be speaking to a tree surgeon / landscaper near you who has the proper tickets to buy the proper stuff. It’s going to be cheaper and more effective in the long run

Drill holes in roots, then tampax soaked in glyphospate inserted and plug the holes up.

Stubborn stuff, for sure, but I vaguely remember ivy-specific instructions to cut the stems and treat the root directly. Also, on leaves, to treat on a warm winter’s day when the waxy coating is weakest, but the plant is metabolically active.
I was using proper farmer’s stuff, not the rubbish in garden centres. I certainly wouldn’t recommend seeing a friendly farmer with an empty jam jar…
Whilst glyphosate will kill most plants. Ivy is a Woody stem type which it will struggle with. There are products such as timbrel to deal with it but I'm not sure how restricted it's sale is.
If you have the time and the patients then cutting it all down and keeping it completely cut back and leafless will kill it eventually

There are a few threads on this already. Biggest challenge is keeping the glyphosate on the leaf and this is where the brands differ the most, rain stay is important. No sense in blasting everything in chemical if it's washed off the first time it rains, waxy leaf is best sprayed on the underside. Washing up liquid in the mix helps and so does wallpaper paste.

Gallup Home & Garden Glyphostate Weedkiller.
According to the Royal Horticultural Society, this is the strongest weedkiller that can be bought without a licence.
If I remember correctly, it's one 24ml cup to 5L water, applied by garden sprayer.
For years I struggled to control weed growth at my elderly Dad's house, especially Dandelions, once I applied this; there's a noticeable effect within days, takes up to 2 weeks for weeds to be totally gone, they shrivel up and die.
Not meant to be used on lawn, as it will kill grass but all other alternatives for weeds within the lawn had no effect; that is, until applied the Gallup Glyphostate, yeah it killed the grass and there were soil patches all over the lawn but at least the weeds were gone.
Sprinkled grass seed bought from Wilko's over the bare patches and within a matter of weeks, lawns were back to normal, minus the weeds.
Apparently, it's a photosynthesis effect which enables the Glyphostate to be absorbed into the leaves during sun light, best applied in the morning sunlight.

i sprayed my back field with,it tons of brambles dockings etc coming of the rail embankment and through the fence from a playing field sprayed the lot twice last year and its like a lunar surface
