What is a camelback used for?

Yes, you sometimes see beam shaped ones too, they are often used when hand scraping smaller items instead of a surface table

Clive's pal Eric is a master. They are guaranteed 0.0001" per foot or better.

I think someone mentioned a beam type above which is why i posted it.

As you say, ideal for alignments. As my camelback/fish back straight edge doesn't have the levelling pads unlike the two clive posted for sale (as per OP's image) i can use this with a level.

I ain’t a bad scraper after thirty years and 2000hrs to be signed off as good enough to go on site alone

Camelback are fashionable but I never use them. I like beam
I tried making beams. The only people who bought them were professional builders
The YouTube four day course experts want camelback and they make the majority

When I do courses I try to explain that smaller edges allow more feel. Craven didn’t use 100’ se, they used 4’ or 5’ beam style
