who owns a oscillating multi tool - what do you use it on?

yes.


I have 2 a mains and a cordless they got me out the poo many times,

cutting holes in places other things can not.
A few pipes been trimmed flush with floor also.
A few stripped bolts/nuts

handy for plaster board cutting for socket boxes ect too

I bought a cheap one from Netto (remember them?) and it doesn't get used a lot but sometimes it is the only tool for the job. I had to cut some parquet flooring flush with the bottom of kitchen units and was stuck till I remembered I had this. My daughter probably used it more than me as a detail sander.

I have a Fein, it is amazingly useful, I can neatly cut things which would have been impossible with any other tool.

Used mine for many things, cutting a rusty bolt of a car when grinder wouldn’t fit.
Removing stuck on tiles over concrete, cutting bits of wood flush when it’s the only tool that fits. It sits in a cupboard mostly but it’s one of those tools that when you need it you need it.

I've got a few of them.
Small and large cordless ones, mainly use them for cutting holes in horses feet but I also use them for odd jobs around the house.
I've also used them for cutting out suspension bolts/bushes when changing suspension arms etc.

I've also got a mains one for the longer duration jobs (and I found that my big cordless one was damaging the battries on some jobs) I mostly use that for removing windows from horseboxes by using a scraper blade to get in behind the frame and cut out the adhesive.
I also use one with a knife blade for fitting rubber matting tight up against walls.

Have a look at the range of attachments available as that will give you an idea of what jobs you can do with them.
Aside from the plunge saw blades you can get sanding attachments, scrapers, knife blades, grinding, even hole saws which work well in tight spaces.

Depends how hard you work it.
And the quality of the blade.

Much like ant cutting, use a decent blade, a bit of cutting lube and the correct pressure/speed and you'll get a decent amount out of them.

Great bits of kit
i have destroyed half of my house with it.
Cut holes in plasterboard, cut nails and screws great for taking skirting boards out tricky joints in wood bodgery, scrapery.
if it blew up id buy another immediately
I went mains powered, would love a cordless one as well
I paid way more than this for mine a few years ago
I would say buy a decent one as it will get used to death

Chopping worktops neatly, skirtings, floorboards and even nice flooring that needed a notch

It's a tool I never thought I'd need. I have the Makita corded. If it broke I'd buy another immediately. Fantastic for cutting, notching and sanding. Get bi metallic blades from Saxon blades.

i was most likley thinking aldi/lidl /ebay end of things ...its occasional diy use not trade

are the ends interchangeable through the brands or do i need to be carefull that i can find replacement ends easily

I've got a couple of cheap ones and they are very useful, I did have a go with a Fein and they are a lot better than the cheapies. It depends on your budget and how much use you are going to put it to whether you spend the extra for the quality.

Tools depend, I have a lidl one and its really hard to find bits for, I also have an einhell and its easy

There are 2 general type of fitting. OIS & Starlock. Blades with the former are cheaper & more readily available.

The blades are about 1.2mm thick, I umm'ed n rr'ed about buying one, but wouldn't be without one now.

The only real question is cordless or mains.

Personally I opted for mains mainly because if I change my cordless drill/screw driver units, it's something else I do not have to buy because the batteries don't fit.

i already have some 2ah milwaukke batteries...was thinking mains might be better , cant see a 2amp battery cutting alot
