Whats happening with chinese sellers recently?

Ordered an all in one diesel heater on amazon, fewdays later received message that they couldnt deliver to my location, NW England? So they asked me to cancel.
So I ordered a replacement on on ebay instead, few days later told they had inspected it before sending and it was not safe and again asked me to cancel the order.
Sent a question re a DRO to an ebay seller only to be told it was no longer in stock and he would delete the listing.
I ordered 2 linear scales for a lathe DRO yesterday on ebay only to receive a message this morning saying due to weather and logistics they won't be able to deliver it ontime and are talking of giving me a refund instead!
I told them that I am not in a hurry so now await another excuse soon.
Don't know whats going on but why advertise stuff if they don't have or can't send?

Covid may be a reason, hitting China hard because they tried to stop it with a zero covid policy, that didn't work and now it has gripped them big style as there is no natural imunity.

only if you dont mind paying 5x more for the same thing from somewhere else ..
I was drill shopping over the hols ,, even Hilti is now made in China , may as well just buy something cheap these days . If China twigs they can double or triple the price of everything and still be cheaper than the rest why wouldnt they . Things coming in from China cheaper than the post costs from UK simply cant last , the bubble will burst.

I thought that as the was increasing they wanted to sell them at the higher price, the all in one heaters went from around £120 to £180 in a week.

As I only use my lathe occasionally for DIY in my garage would not buy an expensive DRO but for under £160 it's not so bad.

That was about 18 months ago .
I ordered one about 10 Dec 2022 it was here by 21 Dec 2022.
What has take time is core drills for the air inlet tube & exhaust pipe and a clearance core drill cutter to take the 78 mm or so air ducting from blacksmithy on eBay they took a day longer than stated .

Now they have arrived and both cutters have the same connection thread to an arbor I'm off to Screwfix to click & collect the SDS max arbors a masonry drill and an extension or two to put holes through a 10 inch double skin block wall with a slight cavity .

All the test kits come from China too. The last half dozen I have seen have had a single drop of the test fluid in the little vial, nowhere near enough to drip into the test tube thing, wet the probe, and do the test. I've been told that's normal, but it wasn't before, you'd get a good 1/4" of test liquid in the tube when it all first started.

They also had 973 diesel heaters impounded or destroyed in December that don't appear on the list above (crappy link)

I don't know if this is a generall tightening up of controls, but it seems like it. Perhaps Chinese importers are getting scared off?

Its nothing new, typically chinese sellers advertise stuff shipped from another location or for whatever reason, the price might be wrong. I get these excuses much more iften when buying the cheapest listing of an item.

You will never get it after they have made the excuse, juat geg a refund and try another seller..

Remember these sellers iften have many thousands of items listed, I have no idea how they manage it, and I've had far more problems with UK sellers.


Best option if its available is buy the same item from amazon prime and have it next day. Often similar price.

I would welcome some change to the import of cheap products, even many of the uk owned/run importers don't care or understand what they are selling, they just shift it with a mark up. Places like Vevor stocking 1000s of products like diesel heaters should be testing and certifying in the uk, then they wouldn't have the problem of nearly 1000 deisel heaters detained due to sub standard instructions. They sell 1000's so the cost of the initial testing, documentation and subsequent batch testing shouldn't make it impossible to sell, some added legitimacy may even boost sales.

Most Chinese sellers on the selling platforms are just resellers, selling the same stuff from the same warehouses.

There are UK and EU customs warehouses who specialise in this. A supplier sends the stock to the warehouse, who store it in a bonded warehouse. Reseller does the legwork of selling it, who once sold send payment to the supplier, then the warehouse gets paid to sort out the official import and arrange delivery to the buyer.
It's why you'll often find the same product will go out of stock at various sellers at the same time.

Big exception are those doing the full Amazon FBA thing, where there is no middle man. The (re)seller has to have their own stock in Amazon warehouses, and the import tax to already be paid before it gets there.

Then there are those shipping directly from China, but again, it's largely resellers selling the same stock from the same warehouses/suppliers.

It's all a numbers game.
Nobody at any stage is really making that much margin, they're just selling enough to make a reasonable living.
Some might get lucky with a particular product and make a relatively huge margin, but it doesn't last long as there will soon be somebody else undercutting them.
