It’s not in stock but we can order it from our overseas supplier. Oh you mean China.
If you want it, it will be 8 months.
It’s a current model too. Why are British companies so bad?
If this was America, I bet I’d be able to get the part.

I would wager you would be buying an American made product to be able to source spares quicker. China is locking down again, so expect the situation to get worse. No company now has the space/Money to tie up in every spare part they might need. Not just Machine Mart, every supplier will have problems. (the car industry still can't get chips)

It's all over the news they're lifting a lot of restrictions which is causing a lot of countries to bring back testing when flying.

Unlikely if you bought from one of their Machine Mart equivalents buying the same Chinese made stuff, just painted a different colour, with a different label on - either unavailable or similarly long lead times.

If you have a look into it a lot of the machine mart stuff is the same as draper/sealey/axminster/etc.
You might be able to source spares from one of those easier?

Take a world map and a small pair of scissors. Cut out UK. Overlay it on America Texas. You see how much space there is around it?

Try Sealey or Draper (maybe even Axminster) as a lot of the models differ just in paint colour.

MM are just a box shifter - importer and retailer, always have been.
They don't make the equipment so there is no reason or incentive for them to stock parts.

I'm quite surprised you can even get the part, with these type of companies it is often a case of either return the entire machine for a replacement if it is under warranty, or you are on your own if it isn't.
Some places might hold inventory of some faulty or demo machines which they can rob parts off if you are lucky, but if you want something with a full spares and service backup you are probably not going to find much at the Chinese end of the market.
I've also found that when spares are available, they are often hideously expensive, to the point it is sometimes cheaper to buy a new unit. Just the way of the world now.

Identifying and keeping uk spares for every Chinese brand of tooling made sounds like a good business opportunity to me, may initially need quite deep pockets ( may not if you could liaise a credit stock) and an Amazon like depot/distribution centre but it could be lucrative. It's always the tech backup, chinglish manuals, spares and lack of info that lets this stuff down.

I needed a replacement back panel for a Clarke shelter, had to pay with order and it came in a couple of weeks.

I got gifted one of their large 3hp twin cylinder air compressors….One of the caps was goosed, a new one from eBay sorted that….then time to sort the pump, a quick strip down showed it needed a piston/rings and new reed valves…Ordered all the parts and gaskets from Clarke service dept, came within a few days…all reassembled and worked like a charm…sold it on for a few bob….

Chemists are getting really bad. Loads of empty shelves, small Mount of stock and trying to get E45 itch relief cream is a non starter.

Don't suppose you used a manual to take it apart?

I took mine apart ages ago. Got new bearings and now I can't remember how it all went together.

That's how I started working with a Chinese couple who imported vinyl cutters.
Problem is we can't get the deals they could get as their Dad still lived there.

So when they stitched me up for 40k I could not retaliate buying and selling and undercutting them.
