any maglite enthusiasts in?

Always thought that Maglite traded on their name. As has been stated before they were at one time, top of the tree, now? better out there.

dunno they was a pretty robost unit for a good price before led came along...they just didnt keep up the last 20 years

Indeed they were top of the tree; one reason being that you could genuinely buy spare parts for Maglite torches pretty much anywhere in the world as the brand was so well-known and synonymous with torches.

When I got my first maglite it came with a booklet on how to use it for protection. They only thing they’re good for nowadays really. Never used it as a weapon, would a light blow work

maglite, friends re-united, numerous others that i don't know right now -

firms that had a good position, but just wasted it by not adapting, and are now nothing

(and, yes, i have a maglite somwhere - but the led conversion for it is more expensive than just buying a whole new led torch!)

A police sergeant I knew in the 80's said the big D cell torches made an excellent alternative to a truncheon as they could put a car window through

Fleet farm in USA sold me LED bulbs for my 6D Maglite, focus wasn't quite as sharp but very bright.

My problems with them are two, they are round and like to roll and try to destroy themseleves, and none of them are curious child proof, whom can break them quickly in creative unrepairable ways

turn up for the books..messaged burton mcall on the prices of parts and they said theyre sending them out for free, cant knock that , will see if i can monster the lot out on my mates hyd press, theyre really in there

Same book being turned up - whoever I contacted 20 yrs ago for mine did the same - sent replacement parts out for free.

Customer service excellent.

I use almost exclusively Fenix lights now and their head torches are the mutts, I am thinking of buying myself one of these for Christmas:

Fenix TK30 1200m Compact Long Range Laser Torch

Though I have a Clulight as the main torch in the house and the missus is used to it now so change may not be so good, besides the Laser torch is more like a light saber than a flashlight so possibly not a good move.

I'm a big fan of LED Lenser torches.

Lenser gets my vote for compact super bright torch’s

I have had a number of maglites and LED Lensers.
I prefer the lenser as they appear to be better made. My problem is with the P7 - it has a button on the base, which is a bit temperamental. It's failed a couple of times, which for a £50 torch was disappointing. First time Lenser sent me a replacement (Free even though out of warranty), second time I just haven't bothered, I figured why bother when you can get a really bright rechargeable cheap thing for £15.

Boiling water helps remove them.

I've been working on vehicles for over 40 years but only found out about boiling water on battery terminals 5 years ago . All that wire brushing and stinging eyes for nothing.

I looked at an led for the maglite, £130. Cracking bit of kit but I’m not paying that

Yes, better made - and the lenses themselves superior (for my requirements) to anything else I've tried.

The last two have been smaller, simpler, P2 (single AAA) torches and I like the fact that the light pool created is perfectly even and spherical - perfect for rooting around for stuff in the workshop!

I too prefer a "penlight" torch. Never had a single AAA one - had loads of double AAA LED ones - and at 120Lm they are enough for working on vehicles.
