Lacquer Thinner UK

I'm trying to buy this "lacquer thinner" in the UK but I can't find it anywhere, or any lacquer thinner.
In the USA lacquer thinner is freely available, but not so in the UK
this Klean Strip lacquer thinner, but I can't find it for sale anywhere in the UK.

What's the equivalent of this in the UK?

id go cellulose thinners , as far as i know americans call celly paint laquer ?

standard thinners can be sub standard re cycled cr@p for gun cleaning etc

no, you can get lacquer thinners. from any paint shop.
they normally come with the lacquer. in a 2.5l square tin, looks like a 5L cut in half.

possibly the same makeup/chemicals as antibloom

Is nitrocellulose and lacquer the same thing?


Nitrocellulose was adopted quickly by the car industry and remained the finish of choice through to the late-1950s. Furniture and musical instrument manufacturers also switched to nitrocellulose lacquer, and mostly it was referred to simply as 'lacquer'

okay not sure i would agree with that , but cellulose thinner is what we call it

I think the confussion is other people call cellulose:- lacquer and we call clearcoat:- lacquer.

I'm not sure how thinners would be a better solvent than petrol?

As others have said, I wouldn't recommend putting thinners through a fuel system!

The normal addition of acetone to petrol as an octane booster is only 0.25%, ie only 2.5cc per litre. It helps with atomisation apparently.

Thats gun wash though not thinners.

Standard thinners and cellulose thinners are the same.

Gun wash is the recycled stuff for gun cleaning...it's in the name.

Obviously the OP is on a wind up because this is not something anyone who wants to keep the vehicle would knowingly do.

I used to throw the rubber squeegie in the celly thinners to let it swell up and become very pliant so god knows what it would do to rubber seals in the fuel system!

Just use Cataclean. A product meant for the application

Cataclean seems to be meant for diesels.
