only problem then is obtaining ammo for a tank do you think they would suspect something is going on.

The forthcoming tender sale will be best for a bargain if you can wait a month. Should be able to pick one up for less than a hundred then especially if your not bothered about body condition. Really rough ones tended to be about £60, not sure though now that scrap has gone up a bit.
