I bought this because it was very rare and cheap. TBH if I had seen how massive it was I would have left it where it was! I mean it is only 40" between centres - can't be that big can it?
First lathe I have ever been inspired to name. Matilda. Can anyone guess why?
Although this is badged up as a Holbrook H17 it is actually the H20 with a swing of 10" over the bed.. Weight around 5000kg or perhaps more. Tailstock alone has got to be 300kg. Makes my poor little Triumph look like a Myford
I was lucky I got a backload with a HIAB lorry. Even though it was an 18 ton HIAB he couldn't get it out far on reach so we had fun getting it inside. Assisted by my very good friend Peter.
I thought I had bought a lemon so haven't been in the mood to post until now. Headstock was very noisy - cross slide had massive amounts of play. less than 1hr of TLC sorted all that. Swapped the phases around - headstock whisper quiet now even at 1000rpm. Cross slide needed adjusted and cleaning. No wear in the bed at all. New belts fitted and it runs like a Rolls Royce.
