Blow Torch Alternatives

Disappointed with my Rothenberger Benzomatic blow torch that has basically fallen to bits with little use over the years. It was purchased for plumbing jobs around the house but now that’s all done it’s mainly used for heating up bolts etc. What alternatives do you recommend preferably one with a hose so I can get the torch into awkward areas with the bottle getting in the way.

I have a Rothenberger knock off, this one, not bad at all actually seems to be lasting pretty well and the variable output is really useful too.

The conventional Rothenberger blowtorch with quick release interchangeable ends takes some beating. Has a pilot setting and very nice trigger with lots of feel for an adjustable flame.

Rothenberger Super Fire 2 all really good. You can also buy rebuild kits for them. There are Bernzomatics which are exactly the same and the rebuild kits fit them too.

If you want a standalone easy to grab unit then the Super Fire 2 is probably the best unit out there for plumbing jobs. They give a lot of heat too, I've freed up many a track rod using one.

There are Bernzomatics which are exactly the same and the rebuild kits fit them too.

I believe Bernzomatic make the torches and they are rebadged as Rothenberger.

If the OP searches for 'Rothenberger remote hose', that is the solution to getting the torch into tight spaces.

bloody cheap on ebay compared to toolstation and the like, hope they aint fakes!

I got a Superfire 2 from Amazon (Not direct from Amazon but from a third party plumbing suppliers) for £60 delivered. A bit dearer (£5) than the ebay ones but like you I was a bit wary of fakes, at least this was from a decent supplier. Check the eBay seller profile, if they are a plumbers merchant/supplier I would be happy enough, if they are a generic box shifter then maybe not so much

Good bit of kit, seems very well made. compared to my previous one - I had a Bernzomatic one (naff DIY type) that I had from B&Q years ago - the plastic handle fell apart, there was something inside it that was integral to the operation and it now no longer works, hence my getting the new one...

Quick fire or super fire 2 … mine are both 20 plus though so can’t say what new ones are like… I suspect cheapest Chinese manufacturer like everything these days

Mine was a real cheap DIY type one - probably OK if you just want to make a creme brulee but it wasn't up to much else yours looked a bit more professional than mine but yeah similar outcome! It hadn't had much use but I had it quite a few years, the Rothenberger one has everything on the outside (Rather than going through the crummy plastic handle) and seems generally much more sturdy, as you'd expect for a pro level tool I guess.

Best blow torch of all is a bullfinch 4100 auto torch . If you don't mind haulin around a propane tank
