Dewalt DCF900 the new daddy of 1/2 impact

The DCF900 was leaked accidentally(sure it was) on the UK website some time ago. Looks like it’s available in the USA now.

As with all things it only a matter of time before something better comes along but this beats ever 1/2 impact they have ever tested in torque numbers alone. That’s pretty impressive given the stuff it beat.

If mine fails I would buy it, but on reality it's hard to beat a torque multiplier

and elu ,, the higher end black and decker its long gone though . Some of my old purple ish black and decker pro is still going strong thirty years down the line , Ive been using a small Milwaukee impact at one of the places I work , its half the size of the snap on 1/2 that usually runs off wheel nuts etc , but it hits just as strong and it was a fraction of the price , its very impressive.

My go to diy test of any 1/2 impact is, will it undo a truck wheel nut? if so its a damned fine tool.

Yep, part of the TTI group, they also own Rigid which is a cheaper brand sold in big box stores. Components are shared between Milwaukee and Rigid.

I been using a small ELU "skill saw" today - plus a little 1/4" ELU router.

Cut some plywood up and put a radius in the edges.

Had these ELU tools years - they don't get used much as I am not too into DIY at home.

ELU MOF96 router was the original version of some routers still sold today. The Trend T5 is the same router but with updates, there are Dewalt versions of the same. The MOF96 is a router that is still often referenced today with many still in regular use.

Well that's It isn't it? Does the tool perform the task intended to a satisfactory degree? If yes it matters not a jot what colour or league of fanboys are behind it.

I have found in my extensive DIY testing () that it’s as much as the battery and socket.

I’ve a M18 1/2” one, but it was ‘the one’ when I bought it. After a few years and quite a bit of use I’ve found if it’s got the 5ah High Output battery and/or a decent heavy socket on then it’s a much better beast than with standard battery and crappy socket.

I’m much the same as you, if it’s good enough to get truck wheel nuts off then I’m happy.

Think mine is a MOF96E - I bought "height adjuster" and "adjustable fence" with mine - used to buy a few things from Trend years ago - cutters and guides.

I did make a sort of spindle moulder out a 1/2" Hitachi router - with a thing I bought from Trend years ago. It is is still in mydomestic garage at home somewhere.

The debate goes on and on - about if heavier impact socket makes any difference at all (I think it does myself).

What I can tell you is - extensions and deep sockets do "lessen the blow" from an impact wrench.

seven fifths of the population dont even understand fractions , let alone physics .

IR make them with a heavy ring around it for even more extra inertia:



Notice its not a solid ring, I think it's designed to have a tiny bit of spring between the socket and the weight, presumably quite carefully tuned to give the highest peak torque on each impact.

No good where access is tight though, which is basically anywhere but wheel nuts.
