They told me that I NEEDED an empty... or BOC would want to get me on contract !
i've got an empty in the shed i think

what pressure do they fill them to? prices?
There are prices in the gas suppliers thread (last page) but phone your local store first.
Out of curiosity i did when HSS were first mentioned on the forum- prices mentioned were significantly cheaper than standard BOC rates for BOC products, possible as i used to get my oxy acetylene from a breakers yard in Creek road Greenwich (now a block of flats unfortunatly) that'd rent oxy by the pallet and sub it for some cash on the side
Gases (and welding gear) are not carried by all HSS branches, my local one put me onto the closest whose prices were very different from those posted in the the gas suppliers thread. I did make a note of the prices but haven't kept it as they were ludicrously expensive, the bit that stuck out was the weekly rental which was almost as much as monthly BOC rent (which in turn is more expensive than yearly BOC standard rate rental).
HSS pricing may vary a lot by region or the other possability is that either SpaffMonkey or myself were incorrectly informed by HSS staff...

I range my local HSS about pure Argon they did not do gas at all but got someone from Derby to ring me back. Full 'X' size [ about 9 litre ? ] £42.48 and rental at £3.00 a week.
When I said it was hobby use and I looking to buy a cylinder from them and then exchange when empty he said they did not do that.
So I asked if I could say rent for a month of two then return cylinder and re-rent again when I need to do more welding I was told that was ok and they would wave the £3.00 a week ! but of course it is a very inconvenient method of getting gas.
