House insurance with workshop cover...

My house insurance renewal quote with NFU has come in at nearly £1000!!!
This covers the house as well as my workshop/garage for everything but it's way to much to pay!
Does anyone know of a cheaper way to do it? According to my missus over half of that is just for my stuff, it's a seperate garage that's attached to the house by a wedge shaped add on built years ago. The normal house insurance doesn't cover my tools and equipment over about a grand or something

Had a mate that did that.
Not a good second year £18000 gone while he was away for 2 days, lots of cameras, alarm, etc
Was a couple of years ago before alarm to phone

Insurance company's turn me green with rage sometimes...To date now i have spent over 50K on public liability and never claimed once, does that show or help my renewal? does it hell

Cover for your shed/ garage etc is the issue. My kid sister is an insurance guru person Broker. No matter how much she tried she couldnt match the cover / cost that the NFU provides me.
Only way she could get me cover for garage contents atthe last place was because 5he garage was attatched to the house, so contents cover could be extended to the garage on what she described as a high net worth policy!

Hate to think what I have spent on insurance over best part of 60 years in business @roofman BUT 1 big claim an it looks good value
Let me sleep at night Dealt with the NFU for the most part of that time only changed for 3 years due to working at heights.
They did want an approved alarm with contract for the WS/Office, had 2 claims with the motor traders policy in that time not a problem it was sorted without any bother

We were 600 for house and workshop/ small holding, with public liability. Now have two holiday cottages on too, so just under 1400 for the lot.

Cornish Mutual more than halved the NFU quote and that was a higher level of cover. It doesnt help though as you have to live in Cornwall! Sorry!

I have a pal in the US who worked for Allstate* and he maintained that his insurance policies were "like savings banks" and if you (he) didn't claim more than once a year you were wasting your money !!







* Allstate opertes in All States of the US and is one of the biggest insurers in the world.

My home insurance covers upto 10k in garage contents. Nationwide , its uber cheap like £15 a month.

This is where having photographs comes in shouldyou need to claim. A reminder of roughly what you have,plus evidence to say you have it in the first place!

Just say if there's a tool available (except Milwaukee) then I've got at least two of it and you'll be fairly close.

Worth looking at Halifax premium household cover, IIRC they have £10,000 cover for workshop and tools.

We're with Direct Line, no idea what we pay but it isn't a lot, and I'm assured the garage full of tools is covered.

I’m assuming, wrongly maybe(?), that your workshop is a business? That’s what mine is and that’s what the comment I made earlier is based on.

If it’s just a hobby workshop then I’d assume it should be insured as such and therefore lower premium? You’ll be in it less and carry out less risky undertakings?

If it is insured as diy or whatever, be aware of the level of contents cover. It’s not very much.
