It doesn't say in the Ad - just that the owner is selling cos he's upgraded. It looks like a Clarke CL500. Is the tail stock present as I can't see it in the pictures?
I would not buy it at that price to be honest. I know lathes are in short supply it seems and prices are high but, that looks expensive for an old Clarke. It doesn't say in the Ad - just that the owner is selling cos he's upgraded.
I did wonder if there should be a "Tailstock" (that's the thing you can put drill bits n stuff in to hold pieces while the chuck end spins em, right?)
Really? I can't see a motor with it (mind you I've a 1hp Brooks that's probably an OTT torque monster fir such a dinky lathe?) - but that Drummond (if its still available) is up for £250. Is that good?Ah now a Drummond is a nice lathe @MattF is the chap to talk to on these I believe![]()
It has the change wheels so that is always good. As I say, Matt knows more about them than I. You will probably need a lay shaft (like in the picture of the other lathe you posted after) so not really 'ready to go' but again, @MattF will know more along with others on here. If the Perfecto comes with the change gears it may be better as it looks in working condition? I would try and get the price down but thats just me being tight!! To put things in perspective, I bought a Smart and Brown Model M off a member on here for £700 including all the tooling and chucks etc. In the midst of the pandemic tooReally? Lots of that info went right over my head.... but it seems if I interpreted the serial number correctly, the one I saw was made between 1920-23
I got my Holbrook C13 for less than that Clarke... But spent tooo long getting it smartened up and a few repairs done!Saw this advertised for £400.
Looks (to my clueless eye) to be a neat compact lathe - but I've no idea of make, quality or its capabilities. Anyone?

I know zero about Lathes, and zero about how to begin to use one.
On top of that I've very limited space.
So with that list of "bad things" - then owning one is probably a very stupid idea.
I can't help but be fascinated by the things though.
Also near me (near-ish) is a Drummond oddity that looks interesting (but I'm guessing simple/basic given how uncluttered it looks). Supposedly renovated with a 3 & 4 jaw chuck.....
Did they make a plain CL500? Looking at the white plate on the top of the headstock and the cap screws securing it, it looks like the one with the milling head without the milling head.It looks like a Clarke CL500. Is the tail stock present as I can't see it in the pictures?
