uPVC door lock gearbox advice

A bit of advice needed. My daughter's back door lock is broken. In her words, "the handle has gone floppy and won't lift up enough to engage the lock to turn the key"
Now, she is moving house in a month or so, I would like to fix this for her. I've had a browse on line and it appears that you can buy the lock gearboxes (without the full locking pin mechanism) for less than £20.
I want to do this in one trip, buy the lock, take it to hers and fit it. So are they all the same? or can someone identify it from the pics she's sent me so I can order, and take to hers to fit.

First thing to check is the handles and the square bar. If they're worn it'll do that and they're really easy to replace. Main locking mechanism can't comment on but likely all different.

you can get the gearboxes from m and b hardware skippers lane theres a few types . they will fit it if u take the full lot in i got one done 50 quid

Thanks brightspark, that's an option but I would rather just turn up with the gearbox and change it there and then if possible.

As you will see, no they are not all the same, get her to look at the plate and see if there are any more identifying marks apart from 013.
@brightspark is probably the easiest option if they are near.

I'm with gaz on this one , if that's a composite door I've never done one yet that you can just change the lock mech it's all ways been the complete bar and they ain't cheap . done me SIL's a month back was £110 inc vat .

She has just messaged me, I asked her to look for markings, ERA so that's narrowed it down a bit!

yes you can but its far easier to take them both if you cant get a lock mech to match

your taking it out anyway

I've done just the gearbox before on our front door multi point locking machanism. Easy enough once you've identified the gearbox you want, mark the linkage rods if they are adjustable.

My brothers gearbox failed last week. I’d taken a spare from an old door just in case. Removing the mechanism I couldn’t find anything wrong so open up the gearbox to find a small broken piece. The gearbox on the spare I bought didn’t fit and as he had no means of locking the door and it was late I bought a Yale universal lock from Screwfix ( part 74544) for £85. Fitting to the door was straight forward but the brackets for the frame wouldn’t line up so needed to extend some of the existing holes but all covered by the brackets. It worked a treat and my brother says it was better than the original pulling the door tighter with less effort.

Interesting never done just the gearbox . I just took hers ( winkhaus ) to a local hardware place and they just matched it , mind a gearbox wouldn't have been any good as the top hook was nadgered !

Get her to lube it first - my mums was doing exactly the same, but on measuring it, and identifying the manufacturer, I couldn't find a direct replacement - I was also heading towards Yale unversal.

However, a change of handle, and lubricant to all moving bits and it worked a whole lot better that had for years.
