Any coincidence that the media,bbc anyway,aren’t reporting on the lack of diesel at the pumps?
If the government are restricting the reporting,it’s a very mild version of Putins methods of media control.

I wondered if some of this was down to the new rules on red diesel, there must have been a huge hike in demand now that construction equipment and all plant hire companies have to use white diesel.

Not sure at what stage they add the dye , The diesel used overall would be the same just different colour so maybe a lag as all plant places put in big orders of white , Cant imagine they'll be in a hurry to lower the price again.

What I was trying to say was there must be a lot more being sold on the forecourts than there was before, you would need to be a brave builder to leave a 5000ltr bowser full of white diesel on site now, I would imagine most are on the forecourts getting the daily/weekly fill.

I found a few interesting charts, one in particular the price of Brent crude, yes I know it’s a heavy oil maybe not used in fuel in the UK and possibly exported, I’m not sure this is not my area of expertise.
But it appears to me that reductions in prices are not being filtered through, surprise surprise.
Maybe I’m looking at the wrong graphs.

Look at oil prices online.

There's been loads of little factors that have joined together to cause bigger issues. Everything from February storms to putin to duty equalisation all add up.

Just realised it’s a bit blurry when copied but UK wholesale gas price according to that chart has reduced by 50% in the past 4 weeks, or maybe I’m just a sceptical old git. Personally I think we are all being totally done over.

Joking apart, isn't it the case that, whilst the UK only gets a fairly small percentage of its gas from Russia, the diesel (as opposed to petrol) percentage is much higher.

I don't know if we are still accepting anything other than political funding from russia at the moment, but if the diesel imports have stopped and some other dubious regeme hasn't stepped in yet, that would explain the situation?

Its not a massive problem - a relatively few places low on fuel. And remember what happened last year when one garage ran out . . .

6 pence a litre. 5 pence duty and then the 20% vat on that.

6 pence a litre was the cost to the tax payer for, in reality, subsidising the fuel companies.

I mean, who'd have imagined that it would work out like that?

Yes that’s true, absolute profiteering, with fuel, gas and no doubt electricity, they’re quick to put the prices up, it would take government legislation to stop this kind of profiteering but will this happen….. no they’re all too incompetent and basically haven’t got a clue.

Dont know about diesel but I saw my local supermarket is at 156p/l for petrol while shell 162p/l. Supermarket did honour the fuel duty reduction.

Remember that shell was/is still getting cheap Russian oil.

Yes, something like 18% diesel but no petrol.
