My new oak door got a sun tan

I had this door delivered a couple of weeks ago and its being sitting in the porch since, still in its shrink wrapping. I moved it today and discovered this discolouration on the part that was in the sun.

Does anyone know if this will sand off before I varnish it?

put it back in the porch for a couple of weeks upside down.

i was colour matching to the windows before the final coats of vanish

just use fine abrasive paper and sand along the grain. i wouldnt vanish it treat it with osmo uv protection oil https://www.wood-finishes-direct.co..._GZQTqRtrOqyJ5cwEaaV-jYLjpCVeAExoCRuIQAvD_BwE give it one coat and when dry a rub over with fine wire wool then another topcoat

no i didnt but i did get a gallon tin of teak sadolin extra to paint my doors and windows for 25 quid instead of shop p[rice 80 quid though

i say a gallon but probs 5 ltr and its not out of date bought a 2 and a half ltr of the guy and used it for 15 quid . what happens is the dealers buy damaged stock in large amounts. if pallet loads get damaged they buy the lot only a few cans may have leaked but most will be ok . not worth the firms time to recover the good ones and remove the damaged ones and dispose of them

I have a tin of Osmo for my oak floor, I'll check to see if that's suitable. It's going to be a shower room door.

We have several of exactly the same doors and just waxed them which darkens them slightly anyway so you probably won't notice. I'm surprised a week of sun could make that much difference. Maybe it was there before so you could ask for a replacement. Anyway we used this stuff 7 or 8 years ago and they still look great.

When I first noticed it I thought it was a manufacturing defect, or had been supplied like this till I put it back where it was and the line matched up exactly to the window.

Dulux decorators centres are doing 3l tins of 420 for about £60 at the moment.

I use the Osmo Polyx on my engine trolleys, water, oil, even spilt petrol just wipes off.

We have those doors along our East/West aligned long narrow hall and they have been unaffected by the bright sun passing for all these years. I can't see how two week's sun can have damaged them very deeply so the above advice sounds good to me.

Re osmo -

A little goes a long way, and it doesn't last in the tin all that well, so, unless you're trade, I'd stick with the 750ml tins.

I bought a £70 tin once and there was more wastage than I was comfortable with.

I use polyx a lot but I don't think that has the uv stuff in it.

parents front door is Burmese teak, my dad rubbed it down with linseed oil every few years (probably 5 years?)

apparently that's how it had always been done, door was over 100 years old and still good as new :-)
