Smith and Arrow cutting disks

I've seen the Ebay seller and a few threads on this site but experience prompts me to ask - are the forum recommendations just marketing spam or are Smith & Arrow really that good?

Any other recommendations for thin cutting disk brands gratefully accepted.

The results of the testing are true, we dont allow spam like that here. The slightest hint, and we investigate.

Smith and Arrow sent a number of samples to members to try out.
Myself being one of the memebers who tested them.

My findings from memory- S&A were not the best discs i have used, but they do offer great value, especially for the low end users, such as DIY welders.

Any recommendations that appear on this site are honest ones. Marketing spam isnt tolerated on here at risk of a good flaming.
I've used their discs and rate them as good as any other decent brands such as 3M, Klingspor etc.

They are that good. However, I've recently done a lot of work with the discs that Weldequip sells, and they are good value and last well.

Just me that thinks there terrible then!

I used them and there flap discs. I now use 3m flap disks and Erbaurer 1mm cutting discs. I pretty much only cut stainless, day in day out, 3m flap discs are the best value and the thin cutting discs from screwfix seem to be the best compromise, there around £1 each, easily shatter if you mistreat them but offer good performance if your gentle.

I'm open to suggestions on better thin cutting disks, but didn't get on with S and A

I thought that the thin cutting discs were good value, the flap disks worked as well as any in the same sort of price range, but there isn't enough abrasive material on them compared to similar price ones,

I bought some 14" chopsaw blades, and was very impressed with them, will be ordering some more soon.

You can get the 3m discs for about £1.30 each off the net.

I generally find the thickness is mainly effected by the grade. Were the ones in the picture the same?

The 3m discs are really durable. You can press on without them burning and "chunking".

I bought a load of these Smith & Arrow cutting discs. I still have a lot left as i don`t do that much cutting at the moment. They cut very well & wear well, but the problem i had was that the metal ring comes away from the disc when i remove the disc to put something else on the machine like a cup brush for example. They are then unsafe and of no use when this happens. I find that because of this, the only way i can get full use from the discs is to not remove them until they are worn down and need replacing.

I`m sure that if i took them to the trading standards they would be concerned about the safety issue, but i like how they cut so i just use them without removing them until worn out now. I use my other grinding machine for other tools.

Had similer problem with the steel center coming from the discs BUT carnt remember which discs they were as just buy them when needed did take them back to where i brought them from andasked them about this and it turned out that i might of been over tightning them slightly as when thinking about it it was different discs it was happerning to??, Now try to just buy discs for cutting/ grinding stainless steel as seem to last longer on car bodies and other mild steel,...

dont get on with the Dronco discs,lots of dust from them,Boc for me,but its personal preference,cut stainless 99% of the time.
found dronco Flap discs next to useless

Re cuting discs, just avoid anything under the silverline brand, not especially cheap and they seem to be made out of cheese.

Same problem with the metal ring coming off of the S&A ones and it's most definitely not due to over-tightening!
It seems that on some the ring is just ever-so-slightly too small making it a tight fit on the grinder hub.
Good, hardwearing discs though, a real noticeable difference in longevity over others I have here.

Ah....as they were samples I wonder if maybe they were classed as 'slight seconds' for this reason?
Has anyone actually bought some and had the same problem?

I bought a mixed bag of 4 1/2" & 9" cutting & grinding discs. Only chewed my way through a few 4 1/2" thin cutting discs but not had any come apart & thats on several different grinders.

ALL the ones i have Wozz were bought, not freebies. I think you are right when you suggest that the ring is slightly too small.

Bought a bunch of cutting disks and grinding disks (100mm.) Have had no problems.

The biggest issue I have is a bought a pack of 100 cutting disks. THey last so much longer, will last me many years.

Have not had any of the rings come loose.

i use S&A 1mm discs and chop saw discs , the chop saw discs last well . cant remember having a prob with the rings on the 1mm discs , i usually wear them right down anyway . i will have a look next time i use the grinder .

Were they the ones i gave you Woz...? Did i give you and Gav some of my samples...?
I havnt had the problem of the reinforcing ring coming away on mine....
