Steel/Tin shed

Any places to avoid or any recommendations on brands to buy.

After having the worst day of my life yesterday I woke up to this.

I had already been made aware that a tree had landed on it whilst the site was closed and it would be removed for when the site re opened on the 1st of March.

But I was not sure how bad it was until I got up this morning and looked in the light.

That's a 6 x 6 shed which is closer to 5ft 6 inch x5 foot 6 inches so I am going to take the opportunity to get an 8x 6 for a bit more space.
But I just don't want to buy a flimsy shed when I could get a decent one for a few shekles more.

I put a couple of B and Q sheds together about two years ago for a woman and her neighbor , they were incredibly thin and light , but when together they were way stronger than you would expect , but the doors were tragic , and I would advise anyone to keep clear of them , Ive no how idea how they stood the test of time either .

I dont think many sheds would survive having a big tree land on them.

all seem to be similar nothing stands out all tinny but ok when built has your shed got a makers plate on it ?

No mate it was there when we purchased the caravan.. I agree all tinny but hold up ok when bolted.

I just wondered if any suppliers had started shaving point something of a millimetre of the thickness of their panels spec...due to spiralling prices of steel.

Wood will rot to easy here.
And yes I don't expect it to survive a tree fall.
My shelving stopped it being crushed further.

Yeah not expecting the new shed to survive a falling tree either but I only have a 6 x 6 there now. Even going to 8 x 6 is going to be a trade off by pointing out it was there tree that squashed my shed.
The point is these caravan sites are extremely powerful as many are being taken over and made far worse. Extra conditions being imposed. Shorter licences and forcing people off site is quite normal.

So.......I am sure if I push too much they will say OK don't bother replacing the shed.

Same if I ask them to pay for it. but if I say I can get an 8 x 6 cheaper than I can get 6 x 6) I might get away with it.
Oh the base is already 8 x 6. As it needs to be rat proof I don't want to laying extra slabs even if I could to be honest.

otherwise its replace what you have or worse ask if you can have the bigger shed as many sites do say no

I've just built a Yardmaster 6 x 8 tin shed. Very thin galvanised steel. Held together with self tappers. I ditched the self tappers and went for pop rivets. Flimsy until the roof is on. On a concrete base. Water came in around the base. Solved with flashband. Not a very tall shed. I used at least 500 rivets. It would easily blow away if it wasn't bolted to the base in four places.
£300 odd. Good enough for storing wheels, tyres, garden tools etc. Security is poor, I added a hasp and staple plus padlock.

I dont think there is a shed on the market that would cope with tree taking a nap on the roof.

I built one of those tin sets once. Agree they are like a wet cardboard box till the roof (which you assemble separately then lift on) - is fitted - then it gains some rigidity.
Still pretty flimsy though, and a real ball-ache to build up.
I think I'd be tempted to cost up how much you'd spend buying proper profile sheets, constructing a frame, and building a decent one to suit you? It can't be more hassle than building up one of those tin flat-pack things.

then use angle iron on the outside if fitting insulation inside

My 5' x 3'6" metal shed has a proper opening door rather than the more common sliding. Can't remember the make as I wouldn't mind a bigger version for temporary storage !

Surprisingly my neighbours shelter for the sheep - a dilapidated railway carriage has, although it didn't fall directly on it's roof I'm surprised it's still standing given most of it is rust.
