AC/DC clamp meter reccomendation

Need my own as borrowing one from a pal. Whats ihteresting another friend brought his round for testing some AC stuff and both gave different readings I assume this due to them being cheap, ie £30

So the first make that comes to mind is Fluke. They are pricy though.

Any reccomendations please

Which is great for automotive use as it has a 2A DC scale that I can pick up a 100ma parasitic drain with. Of course if you want it for household use then they have alternatives.

+1 The UNI-T UT210E. It gives reliable readings down to around 10mA DC (1mA resolution). The earth's magnetic field, and nearby magnetised objects will influence the DC current readings readings, so the clamp needs to be kept in the same orientation after zeroing, but that would apply to any clamp meter.

I've got a chauvin arnoux true RMS clamp meter, had it for 20 odd years and it still passes calibration.

That looks similar to my Tenma clamp, possibly same meter in a different colour plastic. If so it is fine for occasional use on the cars and bikes where is there a drain when I pull this fuse is more important than an absolute measurement.

Uni-t generally make good stuff at sensible prices.

This is probably not what your after but works well for mains stuff where you have a spare socket. Im using it on the furnace and tails to the fuse box. I will fit into a small box and extend the clamp wires, they are a little short!
"External switching transformer" is the clamp on type.

I have another permenantly fitted in my lathe vfd enclosure too, both seem accurate compared against my other cheap meters.

Hi Not done it yet, yes it's me. The equivalent Fluke is about £250 and in my situation do i realy need to be as accurate as that

Check out Brymen. They do a range of clamp meters. The bm079 and bm089 are nice. Brymen are up there with fluke but without the price tag.

Looks very similar, the one in my photos is the Tenma ST 337 with the smaller clamp which rightly or wrongly I thought would be better working in tight spaces.

I have a Megger , from memory and it actually does what you want a clamp meter to do most off the time . you can just clamp it round a bit of t&e or a 3 core flex or two core flat etc and it reads off amps , very handy if your fault finding in a rush. Opps , no dc function on it , but Ive two flukes as well.

The Tenma clamp meter is basically the same internals and, of course the same size. Theyse meters are quite small and slim, and will reach places other clamp meters cannot.

I am a +1 on this as well but be aware you need to practice with it. When I first got it I got wildly varying readings at low currents and found you can get a technique for zeroing it and then getting it on the cable and keeping the orientation right. If you do this you can certainly get repeatable readings which were similar to another cheap meter inserted inline with the cable certainly within a few ma

Have a UN1T with frequency in HZ. Need it for the Lister genny. Even tho she now has her own permanant LCD frequency readout

However having looked at the listing and the fact the third photo is a different clamp meter, plus the fact I have asked the seller about this and have had no reponce I am temted not to but from him.

I only got the CPC flavoured one because I could at that time add it to an existing order with them, as such it was much cheaper than a UniT meter.
