Argoshield light

Hi

Ive just picked up a second hand size Y Boc gasses argoshield light bottle.

A couple of questions.

1) can this bottle take CO2 or CO2/Argon instead of argoshield?

2) As its a boc bottle can i still get this filled at diffrent places?

It's very dodgy to put the wrong gasses in the wrong bottles.

It will be a bit tricky to get it filled as the bottle won't belong to you but to BOC.

probably not as you need an account, therefore they know what bottles you have. unless you have a mate that works there.

You shouldn't have your 'own' cylinder, they should be on a rental agreement.
In reality, they would exchange your cylinder for a full, and take it away to test and fill.
No one should fill that apart from BOC
No one should fill it with anything other than argoshield light.

Depends what age the bottle is - BOC recently changed bottle tags meaning if it is not a new bottle they will take it off you.

Its was from a guy that has just started using bigger bottles so selling the smaller ones.

he's sold a fair few of them so i gess theres a few people in the same

the bottles are not his to sell. if he changed bottle sizes he will not be able to get them refilled uless he still has this size of bottle if you try to get your money back and fail tell him you intend to have a word with boc they will have have something to say about him sellin there bottles and may even cancell his rental agreement

if this guy has an account at BOC and is changing sizes of bottle he will have to return the smaller bottles or carry on paying rent for them thats how it works ! he cant sell the bottles on they dont belong to him , he sounds a bit dodgy to me take the bottle back get your money back , then try and get a bottle from BOC yourself ask about the special offer for DIY users , VW club ! think its still going on .

No, BOC won't fill or exchange it for you. In fact if you turn up at a BOC depot they will take it off you, as it remains the property of BOC, regardless of where you bought it or how much you paid for it.

As mentioned earlier in this thread, BOC have recently started to log cylinder ID tags against customer accounts, this has effectively shut the door on the 'two bottle shuffle' and means that you can only return the cylinders registered to your account and any you lose are charged for. The days of swapping an empty with the local fab shop for a few beers are over.

If you take your welding seriously then get an account, rental sounds pricey but in reality the monthly rental charge on a cylinder is about the same as a couple of pints of lager. For this you get quality gas in a safe and certified cylinder, if there is ever a problem with the cylinder or it's contents then BOC will always replace it without any quibble. Hardly worth the aggravation of trying to do a deal on the side for an underfilled dodgy cylinder.

hese chancing his arm int he. advertising on e bay . i go to a few sales once a month and could get co2. argoshield and portapack bottles full but i dont think if i was selling would advertise the fact .do they not think boc and others look through these forums and the sales including the dhss and tax people

i was watching his items since i got my welder and he has sold a lot so there

must be a lot of people in the same vote as me.

if i wanted to get a boc account is there a minimum time limit as i only want to weld van

up for mot.

You can rent by the month (£5- £7 ish rental? + the gas costs, collection or delivery fees etc.). Ebay bloke needs reporting (i don't have a account), by selling empties he's preying on people that don't understand the system to say nothing of the fact they are effictively stolen

To give the guy the benefit of the doubt he may have purchased the cylinders, you can buy cyliders from all the "majors"..........anyone buying them off eBay or elsewhere needs to make sure they get a receipt that will confirm proof of ownership and also all the relevant test certificates in order to get them re filled

Hi guys good news on the gas front. and a new supplier for the list maybe.

I spoke to the guy ibrought my bottle from who said he got the bottles from his

local HSS Hire shop.

So i went to mine and said id brought a second hand bottle and was told you

could swap for a full bottle and they said yes we can .

With HSS you dont need an account with boc and you dont even need and

empty.but as i had my empty it cost me £57.19 including vat

And that was for argoshield light.
