One of the weather girls stated “nice weather for when you’re out dogging” then realised what she had said & said ” err walking the dog” looking rather embarrassedSpeaking of weather reports, there was talk (not sure if is true) about a weather presenter who had a malfunction with their Fuzzy Felt weather map, some letters refusing to stay put.
Apparently she was embarrassed by yet another letter falling off and said; "I'm sorry about the "F" in Fog.
What's an occluded front? They just need weather girls like Yanet Garcia and they will have no contest

Wind, they said.......rain, they said.....
You believed a forecast?![]()
Oddly enough the BBC hour-by-hour one is surprisingly accurate, at least in this neck of the woods. They didn't see this coming though

Oh well, I suppose it IS Winter.![]()
Hopefully we'll get better quality snow than the wetter west coast!
You skiing?
Where's that? Ah Ah Scottish Highlands. What did you expect?Wind, they said.......rain, they said.....
This has happened a short while ago - 3" in the last hour, thank God the wind hasn't yet come with it
Still falling, although it looks on the wet side so hopefully won't lie too long.
Yes that's roughly what I meant, the Met Office is mistakenly trying to compete with other online sources of weather info, (of which there are many excellent examples, eg Windy).
And another thing, the culture of naming storms is an unwelcome (to me at least) import from the USA. In the States, storms arguably deserve names because they can be huge and devastating, and regularly destroy lives and infrastucture, whether farmland or whole cities, New Orleans is a notorious example. (Also many Americans are functionally illiterate, and need simple labels.)
Over here, the damage is *relatively* rare and insignificant (not to denigrate those who are affected, mainly mariners and farmers who are dependent on the weather for their livelihoods).
Also giving storms (deep Atlantic depressions) silly names accelerates the infantilising, or dumbing down, of the basic knowledge of basic weather which until recently has been part of British life.
(Perhaps I should have posted in Codgers' Corner, instead of here..)
What weather station are you using to measure that?I am/was a member but I lost my login so I had to re-register!
It's been really windy here in Cornwall today. And this is only the first course. They have bumped the weather warning up and said here on the north coast we could get 90mph gusts on Friday...
This was today up on my roof.
