Padlock recomendations for shipping container please

Most common is a lock box and a Cisa shutter lock. Most boxes can take the 66/75 but not the largest 84/85 size.

They're a tough chuck of steel, and in a lock box even more secure.

Abloys are probably the most secure, but not so suitable for container locking, unless using a removeable shackle one in a lock box, but they're very expensive and most lock boxes aren't suitable.

the metal box round the lock is the best and easy enough to make one

Weld two tubes on the inside of the doors that line up with a hole drilled in the side of the container ,slide a solid bar through the hole and it will stop the doors being opened. Nobody would look at the side of the container, especially if there was something leant against it to hide the bar.

A friend has quite a serious security company that make all their own gear. Mainly aimed at motor bikes and bikes. So not much use for the OP.

But award topping stuff. And yes they test with angle grinders....

I installed a robot for a company that made security bars for prison windows, lengths of 30mm SHS with a slot milled the length of each corner which was filled with Tungsten pellets then the robot ran a capping weld over it. They did a demo for me and attacked it with a 9" grinder, it just turned the disc to dust.

I suggested they start a rumour that a few bars had escaped quality control and had no Tungsten in them, it would reduce the trouble in prisons as prisoners studiously worked at the bars hoping they got lucky

That’s actually doable on a small scale. 100no 1mm balls is less than £20 on eBay

We lost some microwave dishes and cable from a mast that had ant clime paint for the first 25 ft
A tube with a loose bar inside does discs no good but the BB are a +
We use a version of @8obs on equipment cabin doors
On padlocks we fit boxes 12mm all hinges on the inside

From what I was told, a Stihl saw wielded by a big bloke with no concern for it's warranty (as it was liberated from elsewhere on a previous "job") with his big bloke mates stood nearby makes extremely short work of your average un-insulated container side - they never even made an attempt on the lock in the box on the doors.

Afraid I don't have the answer, but don't get too carried away with elaborate ideas to make defeating the security you spent a week and money on making un-breakable by someone who cares about their gear, or being disturbed . . . it'll just be by-passed.

I once had to buy a padlock for insurance purposes that cost best part of £100 back in 1990 , the locksmith said that’s 27 seconds , when I asked what he meant his reply was “that’s how long I took him to pick it” , all you are buying is time!

Back in the early 70’s where I worked we had a break in, on of the things taken was the keys to the doors. These were locked with a hasp & staple & a huge Chubb padlock as specified by the insurance company. I set about drilling out the rivets with a hand drill & it took me about 15 minutes to get the lock apart. With a modern battery drill this would have taken only a couple of minutes.

Best to not lose sight of what we are dealing with here, it's a container and if the great unwashed want to get into it they will and it probably won't be through the doors. All you can hope to do is make it difficult and hope they go somewhere else. They tried to get access through the cladding on the back of my mate's industrial unit a while back but were disturbed, he has now put up a concrete block wall around the inside. Its the world we live in

Weld in a re-enforced window? If the stuff in there really isn't worth nicking, maybe letting people see that would help...?

Happened to the previous occupiers of ou building

We have a 10ft high solid concrete wall and they just cut through the bit above it and got access that way

We now have vibration alarms and 24hours patrolled dog security
