Improving fuel economy of bigger and smaller vehicles

Checked the truck mpg on the motorway today using a pooter on the display I didnt know existed , it averages 8.7mpg but get close to a truck in front and I get 11mpg.

I did a journey with a Mitsubishi L300 van (60 bhp) towing a 12ft caravan from Gloucester to Edinburgh Slip steaming any passing HGV all the way. Ended up with eyes like P*** holes in the snow and still only go 18 to the gallon. Bloody stupid but the only way to get the B***** thing to better 40 mph.

Is it that bad Biggish van and a caravan with the aerodynamics of a brick, that lot must be north of 2.5ton.

Does anyone else wonder how many truckers have ended up with nasty lung diseases from spending all day in a swirling cloud of dust, diesel, and other muck whilst being sucked along behind each other?

What would life be without a bit of 'edge ' . We can't be Captain Sensible all the time otherwise we would never have discovered America, Hmmmm on reflection you might be right.

Does anyone else wonder how many truckers have ended up with nasty lung diseases from spending all day in a swirling cloud of dust diesel and other muck whilst being sucked along behind each other?

Is that before in addition to eating too many all day breakfasts /lack of exercise and being scared to death by the antics of dopy motorists. Not to mention,,,so I won't.

Think that is why it’s important to change your cabin filters properly at service time. No one ever does mind!

Some vehicles my Sedona & the Trusimo ... have pollen filters or super fine paper filter elements on the air intake to the heater /aircon system they certainly make a difference .
I'm not sure if they are fitted to sealed truck cabs ....if not it's about time they were .

Yebut most are just passive smokers, compared to slipstreaming truckers mainlining the hard stuff!

And they've been doing it since before trucks had wind up windows..

That's inevitable. Agco would be foolish not to share technology across their brands, but it's a question of improvement not cost cutting. I'm well out of the loop now but that was definitely the thinking when I was involved. I'm surprised to hear deutz engines though, although I think the smaller Fendt always did use deutz. Are the big MF'S still using SISU? They were rock solid motors, though the Finns were a nightmare as far as information was concerned!
