Telephone cable joint

I've snapped the overhead cable to my house. I've done a temporary repair and got the phone working but does anyone know of waterproof joint with strain relief ?

Openreach use them all the time, which is who should be doing the repair if its on their side of the phone socket, its illegal for you or anyone else that isn't Openreach or their contractors to do so.

You want jelly crimps for the corrosion protection and then just encapsulate it in errr somthing.

Would this hypothetically cut gas line on the supply side of the meter, cut with an excavator bucket that was fully elevated as the driver reversed the machine, hypothetically have taken out the overhead phone line?

The gas pipe is also the responsibility of the supplier, up to the meter - check the depth, I had similar many years ago, it was only ~200mm below the surface, they were twisting & turning trying to get out of liability until the lads digging the trench found a steel section perforated by rust, likely to have been leaking for some time.

With Openreach, the cost of repair (if any) will be less that the potential fines.

Openreach won't repair, they'll simply replace sections between wherever they can add a joint that won't be under strain i.e. on a pole, or the side of a building.

If it's too obvious how it got damaged, and you're likely to get a bill for Openreach repairing it, I'd be inclined to find a source of suitable cable to repair it.

BT guy here was telling me it’s not uncommon to dig up buried lengths for a fault or whatever and find a tube of silicone, cut down the middle with the wires twisted together inside

When I’ve reported snapped lines (twice) they have just come out and re strung or put a splice in. There was no investigation or whatever just a couple of blokes got on with it.

One may have been with a ladder by the fascia board, and one may have been in a tree which rubbed through it. As it was my tree I’ve a feeling I should have paid but played stoopid and all was well in the world

yes but not if the overhead cable is damaged .only at the end after the restraining wire to make the down conection

sorry but we do overhead mid span joints all the time.

I've never seen them done on the final drop wire though, which is what I'm assuming the OP has burst, and not a bigger cable serving multiple lines.
Any faults I've seen them fix, they simply replace the wire.

Reminds me of the day I heard a crack outside and was just in time to see a lorry going down the road, don't know if it was taller than normal or the phone lines had sagged but he took out 6 cables strung from the pole including mine
