Chuck jaws

I’ve got a Pratt Chuck that came with my lathe which the jaws have been altered, I’ve emailed them but they say the Chuck is obselete now so no spare jaws are available, is the Chuck basically redundant now?

Those are soft jaws, they are designed so that you can machine them to suit your needs.

What size/model chuck is it?

You will likely get hard jaws from TEC Jaws but they won't be cheap.

Looks like TEC don't do hard jaws either but they do soft jaws. Dependant on price it may be worthwhile getting a few sets of soft jaws, assuming the chuck itself is decent condition.

It has been discussed many times on here, that the problem with imperial chucks is the price and availabilty of jaws.....
That said if the scroll and the chuck are in good order it could see you out in hobby use ..trying to find a 'modern' chuck with d1-4 pins of any tangible quality is going to make the jaws look 'cheap'

Keep your eyes peeled you may get lucky on ebay ocassionally ! but Rotagrip are pretty much the only shop in town for off the shelf.

its only a 3 jaw so even if not 99 percent true the 1st cut it will be

You can get a standard precision 160mm Pratt Burnerd for under £300. But that doesn't include the back plate, it might be worth investigating whether your existing backplate can be made to fit.

Yeah that’s a good shout, would get inside and outside jaws as well, wonder if the backplate fits…
