Timber prices

Does anyone with more knowledge of the industry than me (most people!) have any guesses as to when timber prices might start to come down again (if, indeed they do)? I have a few projects that are not urgent and hence can wait if prices are potentially going to drop, but I was just wondering what the predictions on here were.

Just looking at some 4.8m lengths of 2x2 on the Travis Perkins site and its 75% more expensive now than last year - paid £9 a length last year and now its £16ish

I worked in it 30 years ago but spoke to one of the lads last month
He tells me its flying up.
He couldn't see it coming down in the foreseeable future
It was interesting as I have no contact with it and never considered.
Wood as a fuel, the trees arnt mature enough to make stiff just burnt
Who is planting? it takes about 40 years I believe to get construction timber.
He also told me Russia is supplying China, Scandinavian countries are supplying the US and he believed they are paying premium rates

the prices have near on trippled in price for any material so not just wood

a few factors due to creaming and virus situation we are in at moment will it come down

wait until it hits the food side of it as it will do prices are already increasing on it

uk has been moronic with its trees never replacing what its cut down and dosnt run acre sites with yearly rotation

The timber yards are holding expensive stock and you want it a reasonable price, it's a case of who blinks first.

I sold my timber mill a few years ago, having bought some timber recently it’s sparked my interest in buying another. A lot of the big boys are sending trucks to Europe and bringing back building materials, substantial savings to be had if you buy truck loads .

Kinda there already. Everyone seems to be flat out and booked way ahead ATM. Wonder if staff heading back across the channel has had an impact.

I've just delivered an artic load of wooden sheep hurdles to a farm supplier and they told me they're now having to sell wooden ones because their suppliers can't get hold of galvanized metal ones for love nor money.

£36 a sheet at wicks!

Managed to find some seconds (fine for me) at a tenner a sheet on eBay.

Chap said that, previously, they had skipped the seconds, but the situation is unusual currently.

Dont look too bad. Good price on the 2x4 quoted £4.02 a meter last month

That 2x4 is cheaper than I seem to find (although I was looking at tanalised).

If anyone wants some reclaimed timber I have a bit on site, not for long though. I have some 4x4 pine posts about 8 foot long, got about 10 of those, some 2x8 oak joists of similar length and a varied selection of other hardwood profiles. I've just ripped out a load of large window bays and most of it is a mix of hardwood.

It's in central London and it'll be going to the chipper next week. I'd rather give it away than skip it even if someone just wanted a couple of tonnes of well-dried firewood.

Gone greedy....I am getting more and more skeptical about the situation we find ourself forced into....
