lol ,,, it would do that ,, oil off your skin or salt crystals is enough to stop gortex working well .I used to use mink oil on my boots, ruined the gortex. It does make the leather very soft though
I have to admit though we did deserve it! My brother and I called it the Hallaluya dance Dad held one arm while we circled him with our other hand flailing at head level!I wish my dad had used something to soften his leather belt when he took it off and used it on me!

I’ll never do it again, £350 worth of boots. Gortex was on the inside of the bootslol ,,, it would do that ,, oil off your skin or salt crystals is enough to stop gortex working well .

I use it on my bike boots Fibings Mink Oil , then dubbin over the top and that finishes off with a dull sheen , thats maybe twice a year , inbetween i use standard boot polish and they come up tidy again after a couple of goes .Does mink oil add any waterproofing itself? , I have untreated leather boots and was thinking of adding an oil to them for water beading and softening a bit
